and sometimes worse depending on what gets hooked upold Eico /Knight, etc. integrated tube amps had a smidgen too much stuff in path but good transformers - really don't think solid-state of mid-late 1960's was much worse than some budget stuff today (?)
counted > 40 amp/preamp purchases in last few decades - going in circles after pcm revolution :^)
