coaxial (and quasi-coaxial with X15 waveguide) in Karlson is better imo than trying to mate horns on top - at least in a smaller roomimage is tilted upwards from floor
K15/N1500/604C played Gary Karr's Koussevitzsky work "better" than anything else I've heard - OK too with Hans Hotter - the Altec Duplex sonded somewhat "romantic" on jazz and rap
maybe you can find a discarded K15 cheap/free and give a try - looks like Mr. Karlson's driver for the 1954 article could have been a 604B (?) - K15 had already been in production since 1952
whatever enclosures you try M-lab's network should be worth a try - (inductors' dcr raises qes a bit)
