According to my sources this beauty was called TD 520 S Acryl and only 17 were made. Prices: TD 521 (standard version, the 520 without tonearm) - 1278 DM (1986), 1648 DM (1997), 1898 DM (1999) Upgrade .......

The Thorens 520 is a very good table. The TD 320 has the the same basic design, but there is a vital difference. Where the 520 has a MDF bottomplate, the 320 unfortunately was given a metal bottom pla .......

It is a good table, especially with the SME arm. Thorens tonearms have never been their strong point. The Needle Doctor sells them new, so you get an idea of the price. .......

There are supposed to be dampers available for the suspension of the 520 (and the 2001,3001 etc). I think these are used by Phonosophie in their highly regarded turntables. There might be more info on .......

If memory serves, there was a 500 series Thorens with an all clear acrylic plinth/base that retailed for in the vicinity of $3,500. One sold recently on A'gon for around $2k. Henry Necessity is a moth .......

As Mapleroot said, I occasionally fool around with an original TD-160 which I tweaked a bit. The MkI TD-160 has a very small arm board and will not take a Rega arm. A Linn arm, perhaps. The 125 has .......

I have a TD 520 upgraded with RDC bottomplate, RDC/widia bearing flange and TPN 2000 powersupply. It has got a Moerch UP4 tonarm mounted. It is a nice sounding deck. Does not go that easy out of tune .......

Greg, owned a Thorens Td-124 Mk II in the '70s w/Grace 714 arm. Very good table. Replaced it with my Linn, which was a step up but not all that much in those pre-Lingo, Cirkus, Mana day. I have a TD-5 .......

Frank, I wasn't aware that AJ was reconditioning cartridges for such a low VTF. I don't know your arm, but it seems to me that a fairly massive and long arm is needed - say, an FR-66s - or my SME 3012 .......

In my experience the ATOC9ML MC works very well in the 3009 S2 with detachable headshell. Very fast and dynamic sounding in my system but it can be bright sounding with horns. The Shure V-15's are ver .......

Probably the best one out there is the Ortofon SPU Mono. IIRC, it's around $300. One choice of table is the Thorens TD 520, which accomodates a 12" arm (E.g SME 3012) and plays 78s and can be adjusted .......

It took a month for my armboard supplier to provide the armboard. But when it finally arrived, it was letter perfect. Cherrywood, gorgeous, and every hole drilled to perfection. This fit my Thorens TD .......
