The Piccolo is a very different kind of design. It uses 6 2SK389's per chanel, and a bunch of power supply circuitry. The Boozehound head amp uses one 2SK170. Very simple and works perfectly for me wh .......

A friend who refuses to be named or photographed swears this solid state kit sounds as good as the premium transformer Cinemag SUT he also has but with lower noise. The site has been around for years .......

Whatever Works. Personally I've found small joy in the Shure V Carts. Tried 'em twice, with 20 years between.. a case of Emperors' clothes.. for me. Possibly consider trying a 'better' preamp/amp ? .......

As far as the TT I just sold everything and bought a VPI Prime. I still have a couple things to sell and will hopefully break even so its not as wild abandoned as it might seem, at least that is what .......

Similar to the Lounge and there's an active step up with available power supply. I tried the active on batteries, as did a friend and we both thought it good but less so than Cinemags, 3440 AH for me, .......

No, and I decided the other day to do it. If I disconnect while the amp is on there' a pretty loud transient, so I don't. I'm thinking an MKP like .01 mF 1000 volt. Sound right? I've also been advised .......

There is a company named Able Rock that is selling a phono preamp that looks like the same circuit board with all the same parts on Ebay. This is a assembled unit with case that sells for $180.00 US .......

I have approx. 5 hours on these Powersonic and they measure exactly the same voltage as new, 19.7 vDC. Impressive, as I have, from several sources, an expectation of 8 hours life from 9 Volt NiCads. .......

Hummmmm. If coils of wire weren't an antenna no active circuit would be quiter. But they are. Even with a Faraday Cage and shielded wire. My Cinemags don't audibly hum but my friends do. RF is everywh .......

The Cinemags are very well shielded as, apparently, are the Sowters so no worries building them in as in this Cornet 2. The active Lounge (I actually built the Boozehound it's based upon) is very q .......

Thanks for that. Googled a Jaycar Electronics page that says these cheap gel type SLAs prefer "shallow type" charging and may be connected to the charge after each use and maintained on the charger in .......

IMO Some Phono preamps can sound good despite using Op amps. But it Does beg the question of WHY? they use an op amp at all. Rare that 'extra' circuitry actually helps the audio signal Even a cheapis .......

The safe depth of discharge levels vary with battery construction and also life expectancy expectations. There really isn't a such thing as an accurate state of charge meter which could be considered .......
