in tight shrink wrap and only cost $25. Thank you for the suggestion. Steinweiss was really prolific and came up with so many creative ideas. I also learned that he was a graphic artist for commercial .......

I picked up the box set below two days ago and noticed the artist's name on the cover. Research on this asylum and on the internet taught me some new and interesting record album history(see the AA li .......

He was the main designer for Columbia. Reid Miles did many of Blue Note memorable cover designs. Just a random covers I like. I know this isn't the cover but nice packaging! .......

He worked exclusively for Columbia in the time frame that set would have been released. Not sure if he ever did any covers for Victor or RCA. Maybe after the 12" LP era was in full swing? There are so .......

His work has lots of detail, including some drawings, but never drawings of people, and certainly not in the style of the Stern portrait. Steinweiss was mainly a collagist, pulling together work do .......

The cover on Columbia ML 4363 (1950, blue label) is signed by Alex Steinweiss, but I don't think Steinweiss did the portrait of Isaac Stern, as he didn't do these kinds of realistic line drawings. .......

According to Kevin Reagan's beautifully illustrated and well-written book (I've mentioned it here), Steinweiss worked for Columbia, where he essentially invented the record album cover, from late 1939 .......

A bit of nostalgia: As a kid I remember my dad relaxing with "record sessions" some evenings. He'd put on a few records (initially 78s, later LPs) light his pipe, and settle back in his favorite ch .......

It isn't often you find an original purple-and-gold Everest in the dollar bins. This one has a great Steinweiss cover and superb performance and sound quality for two of Tchaikovsky's (imo) more minor .......

at the link. 10/12" LPs started in 1948, 78 sets predated them, Alex Steinweiss is credited with starting art covers (for Columbia, as Art Director) in 1938. Most of the better known record cover art .......
