I'm using a home theater receiver that does not have an option of selecting mono playback. I have a good many mono LPs. Would it be pointless to buy a mono cart for these LPs? I do not understand the .......

The "mono" switch on your preamp simply sums the two channels into one. Every sound picked up in each channel is now played back in both channels. This is great for "electronically reprocessed" stereo .......

Because mono info is all lateral, a stereo cart will read the vertical information in the groove, which on a mono recording is nothing but noise (rumble). So, with a mono cart, you get less rumble on .......

Using a mono cart is a great idea in your case. The signal from the cart will be mono, so you don't need a mono switch on your receiver. You'll have to split the signal into 2 channels, otherwise you' .......

I got it because it's the same series at the VM540 and I can change carts without needing to adjust VTF. Also, the stylus will fit either of my VM540s and vice versa. It was about $100 from 2juki. The .......

I'm going to put a mono cart on the Kenwood deck and play the older monos (at least) on that deck only. Newer monos are cut for modern stylus shapes. The older ones will benefit from a mono cart, but .......

Play with VTA. Try lowering it a little. I have found that with my spherical stylus that if it is too high, I get more surface noise on mono pressings. I don't have a mono cart but instead use the mon .......

Sorry, John, I think you're mistaken. A mono LP is only modulated horizontally, so a cart that completely ignores vertical modulations also ignores tracking distortion on the vertical plane. Also, asi .......

The Grado has two generators (but four poles, it takes two poles to form one generator in a MI cart). The Lyra’s also have two generators, both arranged in a pure mono fashion. The Denon has only one. .......

Is there even such a thing? The mono (S)PU has almost ten times the output of an "equal" stereo SPU. There's no benefit in low output. Low output is a function of low impedance/resistance, i.e. small, .......

Still the same concept. It's just that the grooves on modern mono records are compatible with stereo carts. You can play them that way if you wish, they just sound better with (in order of preference) .......

A fairer audition may be to play the mono LP in stereo mode. The surface noise that seems to be part of the mono "image" will still be there with a mono cart, but (much of) the noise found off to the .......
