Is the only difference between the 8080 and 8080db that the db offers dolby FM? The 8080 has a selector for dolby FM on it. I had heard somewhere that the output amp circuitry is different. ::: TOPIC: .......

Yep ... I've found my 1000X to be a very nice receiver. Like yourself, I am very surprised at the quality and reception ability of the FM section. These things were better built than the Sansui 8080/9 .......

There's so much to like about the Sansui 8080. I find that it can drive just about any set of speakers and deliver the goods. It's FM scetion is excellent and beats many sepearte tuners. I had a pair .......

IMO your are worrying over nothing. I would suggest looking into the Sansui 8080/7070 model also. I know they don't have as much power as the 9090 but I own the 7070 and it can complete with the TOTL .......

Steve IMO and many others, the Sansui 8080 is one excellent vintage receiver. I think for $75 you got a great deal! It is very much in the 70's sound and can power just about any speaker. Built 1977-1 .......

I owned the 771, the 32 watt model. I loved it. One of the better made Sansui model lines. Other claim the 7070, 8080, etc. Those are good, but my 771 was one of the beefiest 32 watt units I have seen .......

Don't know about the Kenwood but in my experience the Sansui 8080/9090 series are the best I've heard. Better than my Marantz 2285 in my estimation. -RG .......

I own a Sansui 6060 but have no idea about the Luxman 1050. The 6060 is well built and has a nice overall sound with a very good FM section. I adjusted the muting theshold because it was set too high. .......

I own the 771 which is the same build as the 881 except a few more watts less power. I love it. I like the 771/881 even better than Sansui's 7070/8080/9090 line. I know I'm in the minority in that but .......

No problem, I have 2 8080's and love them. They really benefitted from a good alignment though, they were off by a good bit. Sansui had a good grasp on tuner design, and put decent tuners in the high .......

Vintage Sansui receivers are very bright on the high end, almost to the ear-splitting point with some speakers - makes you think you CAN hear 20khz in some cases - to save money I would look at the 70 .......

I would put my money on the 9090. It has plenty of power (125 wpc) As another poster noted, the DB models don't really have any added benefit since noone broadcasts in Dolby FM anymore. The straight 9 .......

You should clean the selector switch as a matter of course but I doubt it will restore the lamp circuit. The contacts have a tendancy to burn and cleaning won't fix it. It didn't on mine anyway. I see .......

You have good taste. I have a Pioneer 1250, Onkyo 8500, Sansui 8080, and Luxman 1120. Quite a combination, bet not too many people have this assortment. I also use a Marantz 2270, Mac 1900 and a Mac41 .......

That receiver puts out a supposed 125 watts per channel..In 1977 i had a GAS grandson amp that was 40WPC and it played louder and cleaner with much much more authority than the 9090db did.My point is .......

The 8080/9090 use the same tuner, a 4 gang, 3 ceramic filter with good IF gain/limiting, ratio detector, and HA1196 stereo decoder. This would be equivelent or a bit lesser than a TU-717/517, which al .......

I would look into having it repaired by a known repair outfit. Buying equiptment off EBAY is very scary to say the least. From my own personal experiance I went through 10 receivers purchased off Ebay .......

Tuners were very important pieces in the 70s! Kenwood was known for their fine tuners, Pioneer and Sansui were very close. One of the best all-around tuners is the Onkyo T-9. Excellent sound to satisf .......

The AR-90 is a great speaker, but it's a 4 ohm load, isn't it? They are also fairly low sensitivity, so if you like a little volume or have a larger room, you need some power. I had a sony STR-V5 year .......
