I agree with most of what you say, but the term "DAC-1 Clone" is a bit too much, especially considering Lavry does sound better than DAC-1 to many ears, including mine. Lavry is never going to sell n .......

Again, I think something bears mentioning here: in my tests of DACS I have found it very difficult to tell them apart in many cases (some comparisons are quite obvious, however...like DAC1 vs. an Audi .......

I believe the Lavry Blue & Black are electrically identical. The only difference is the case. The Blue is modular. The Gold is completely different and much more expensive. Why not give Lavry a call? .......

Well, I suppose they are both DACs that use AD chips, but the similiarities pretty much stop there. Lavry uses AD1955 DAC, Benchmark uses AD1853 DAC Lavry doesn't up/oversample (as I understand), Benc .......

No such problem here. Make sure that your player is set to deliver what the Lavry expects to receive. If you are using an XLR to RCA converter, make absolutley certain that either pin 2 or 3 is unconn .......

As for the sound of the Lavry, mine did NOT have the slightly artificial highs and haze that surrounds some instruments which I have heard from upsampling units. It is not quite as smooth in the highs .......

Goto diyhifi.org and look at the issues with the Lavry. There is also comment about the Benchmark. Frankly, I'd wait if necessary to invest in a top dac, the cheapest being the UA2192 which has ad/da .......

For DACs, I'd choose the Lavry DA10 DAC. It almost sounds as if it has tubes. For CD players, either the Don Allen-modified Philips CD changer or the Cheer Audio CD player. I actually prefer these two .......
