All these upsampling started by dCS is not really a marketing hype. The effect was not intended by dCS themself but was discovered by their distributor in Hong Kong, who tried one time to use the dCS9 .......

If you find a used Verdi Encore then, frankly, you need not bother buying a Purcell. The Verdi Encore will upsample to DSD and feed it to the Elgar Plus. All that the Purcell will offer in addition is .......

It appears both Accuphase and dCS use the same "physical" connection namely CAT5. The Accuphase implimentation is their own whereas dCS cuses IEEE 1394 or Firewire format etc. Sony has long "threatene .......

Consider the dcs 974/954. 974 much more adjustable than Purcell. 954 has the topography of the Elgar. Will upsample CD to DSD but I don't know if it can have the Verdi DSD receiver. Not much to look a .......

Yes but that $100K is for the entire dCS digital system including SACD/CD transport, upsampler/network streamer and master clock. The DAC can be had for a far more reasonable $36K ;-) .......

Actually none of the stand alone dCS DACs* will convert PCM to DSD. The conversion occurs either in the transport or via a separate upsampler. Earlier dCS DACs will also only accept the DSD in encrypt .......

I have a CD73 and have heard the '33 at Audiophile systems at CEDIA. The '33 is phenomonal. The DCS stack was there, too. There was not much of a jump between the '33 and DCS, but a good jump from '73 .......

I would hesitate to use the Elgar/Purcell with anyhting but the Verdi, given that dCS has a proprietary clock link, and that the Verdi is an amazing transport. clock link also made the Wadia 27ix/270 .......

The only SACD transports with digital outputs to DACs use proprietary interfaces at this moment. That means you need to use an Accuphase transport with an Accuphase DAC or a dCs transport with a dCs D .......
