I am not sure what version of tube you're having(life is easier if you need only ONE) and I think the Mullard large base, with double round getter would be more euphonic than the small base, single ge .......

No, there never was a Bendix 5U4 type made. Bendix tubes can be variable in sound anyways, some are good, others not so. There are GE 5U4GB's of every vintage imaginable. GB's are always straight glas .......

If you are referring to these tubes on Audiogon (see link), then these are relabeled RCA 5814A Black Plates. IET like many other companies like IEC, ULTRON, TRIGON, HOGES, TRONIX etc. etc. relabeled t .......

Chris, the falcon logo has far less meaning than the CCa designation. CCa actually has meaning as a select grade tube. The falcon logo, however, means nothing at all. It is simply the logo of a partic .......

It is so legendary because it was never made. As always with tubes, the rarer it is, the more people seek it and pay huge dollars for it, to the point where the ones that are fictional assume legendar .......

Thanks, Jelle. This helps a lot. If I am not mistaken the EL34B are a little larger than standard EL34. Did they fit without problem? No problems of overheating because of the tubes coming too close t .......

There are NO 12AU7's, American or otherwise, with a third mica spacer. Mica as a material is generally translucent, thickness depends solely on the production batch and is sonically irrelevant. The CI .......

Really, no difference electrically. No such thing as a 5U4. 5U4G is glass, coke bottle shape, also seen in military marking of VT-244. 5U4GA/GB are straight bottle, more rugged. Tungsol 5U4G is best, .......

I wouldn't hesitate to rip out any ECC88 or 6922 that could be replaced by a E80CC if the circuit allowed it (excludes cascodes etc). I'd go further and substitute rimlock sockets and use the ECC40. .......
