The Hakko I use is a great one but it has no way of letting you know the temperature it is. It might be an older model. .......

Hi, Thank you and Gusser for the info. I lowered the heat a bit and soldered in some diodes for a bias circuit(Dynaco) and it soldered a lot more smooth and shiny. Only thing is my iron has no tempera .......

I am using a Hakko soldering station(forget the model) and it has a dial on it to control the temperature. I usually use it wide open or full heat. It is a 75 watt station. I was wondering what would .......

He has a pot to do that. And yes! It is a Coleman regulator. He said to change it would be to readjust the pot for the 46. He has a meter built in to adjust the filament. .......

I have an amp that can play either tube but I would like to know the difference(s). Each type of tube has a pot to adjust I don't know but it has an adjustment. I am, at present, using the 45 tube. :: .......

Tre' Should I put a cap on the wiper? I'll leave that up to you. Whatever is the best way to go! My friend who is helping me with this said it's not necessary. But since I say a 50UF cap on the Dynaco .......

So it goes from the wiper through a 470K and ties into pin 6 which has a 1K resistor on it going to pin 5. Pin six is used as a soldering connection. .......

Found what I wanted. Marchand makes a lo pass or high pass only(XM44) that will do an eighth order crossover point with volume control. Exactly what I want. .......

I did a full resistor winding end to end and soldered both ends. If it works then fine. If not then I wasted my time and let me tell you it's a bitch to wind the resistor but I am getting better at it .......

Looks to me as a factory built amp. Those solder joints look to be from the same person and usually I have never seen things wired with that kind of care. And soldered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .......

How about using a "Y" connector. One side going into the input of the phono and the other side of each "Y" going to a 470ohm resistor? Or just throw a 470 ohm resistor across each 47K resistor on the .......

I just looked at a cartridge box that I never knew I had. It appears as new. In there was a Zephyr MIMC. I looked it up and it is 0.4MV output with a coil inductance of 2.75Uh on each side. I know you .......

The MG-1 is able to set the VTA on the fly. I never compared it to other air arms but mine sounds great and is trouble free. .......

Sounds like a 120 cycle grounding issue. There is a guy in New York that can find any buzz or low frequency hum. He totally fixed my Arthur Loesch preamp from any audible noise. His name is Da-Hong Se .......

It is the preamp definitely. I have used many phono stages(about 20 and mostly tube) and all are fine with my system. Sum hiss on the tube ones but mostly quiet. No hum! .......

You could try Hammond and get something close. I would go higher on the current output. Some adjustments might have to be made to get the voltages proper but that's the easy part. A descent tech would .......

I bought an SUT from Ned and to me(as I don't know Bob from Bob's devices) Ned was the best and very, very reasonable and also very helpful. I paid $300 for a fully assembled SUT and the Sky from Bob' .......

Only reason I didn't get the AT cartridge is he was out of them and the ones that had them were asking almost $2K for them and all were in Japan. Glen at Hi Fi Heaven said they were coming in December .......

I have enough space between the platter and the plinth that the bearing from Sota allows. I guess I'll have to figure it out but I think I am going to buy the entire Eclipse system after the cartridge .......

Hi John, I'm pretty proud of it. Many analogue designers might be able to pick it apart but I like it and I think it sounds good. I just wish the guy from MG-1 would respond to my need of another ton .......

Being that a tech for turntables is setting it up threaded mounting holes is a non issue to me and I think to him. The difference of the two in price is a little over $200 so the price being that it's .......

I built just the crossover preamp with a bit of gain that you are talking about but it is a separate preamp/crossover to my line stage. Just use short IC's and your golden. .......

This might not be just an efficiency thing. It also has to do with the impedance changes the speaker has. Your speakers might be very linear. .......

I own a pair of open baffle speakers from Hawthorne Audio(possibly not in business any more). They are really good sounding speakers. I am not a favorite of box speakers. I know they have their merits .......

Mistake meaning why the voltage was too low. In a choke coupled design it generally is lower if that is what you need or just buy a larger transformer. .......

I do like biasing using an ammeter more than a volt meter. But going across the cathode resistor is fine. Just my preference to use an ammeter. .......

The picture is showing a 26 tube preamp with no phono. I built the preamp as per the schematic and if I'm not mistaken it is a 6SL7 for the first section and a 6SN7 for the cathode follower. ::: TOPIC .......

You could put back the tube rectifier and build an outboard cap bank(I think Cary did that with one of their amps)and connect with an umbilical wire but you can't have more than 40UF on the rectifier. .......

How about disconnecting the rectifier from the rest of the circuit. Turning it on and see how long the B+ comes up. From that measurement it should eliminate the rectifier. .......

This isn't the exact circuit that was followed by the builder of the amp as far as I know. Chip647 built it and I really don't know what changes were made. He used a VV302B tube for the 300B. The 6SN7 .......

There's not a lot to recondition in those. Very simple amp. I would go oil coupling caps or go the entire other way and use Dynamicaps or even Sonicaps. The other things to change is more for reliabil .......

the LM337 failed in DAK's amp. Could it be that Dave's circuit is isolated to the SCA/ST-35 only based on the B+ and resistor values used and can't be used with just any EL-84 amp. Unless the resistor .......

Millett power supply. I have done many projects using batter filament, battery power supply, etc. I always preferred a well designed AC rectified power supply. I even like it better than using a wall .......

Unless I am missing something all speakers that aren't powered on their own need an amplifier as well as a phono preamp and linestage preamp(or full function preamp). I have never seen a phono with US .......

Usually most buy the speakers and work backwards from there. I have done it both ways but I own many amps and preamps and speakers. My favorite speakers have always been open baffle(OB) types. No box, .......
