Thanks Eli!- You are right, When I first got into this "hobby" some 40 or so years ago, upgrading capacitors most always meant switching to poly or oil capacitors , so that it wouldn't have to be done .......

Yes,the first thing that I did after cleaning was to lube the spindle.I then spun the platter with the power off and could not hear the noise. I then removed the three hex bolts and removed the platte .......

I have no idea how this occurred as I had the two 12 inch speakers (R & A , Wolverhampton, England ) face to face and tied to protect the cones. Anyways, the paper cone tore a few inches where it meet .......

The only driver with numbers on it is the label on the horn tweeter which is R106C8235 and 220914. The woofer has no numbers that I can find. Both drivers have a nice looking "Special Design" foil cal .......

Mike- I just recently obtained a pair of Fisher 100 monos in very good condition, one amp just needed a single broken 68 ohm resistor replaced. The power supply caps reformed really well as both am .......

Yes, but I believe that the 5R4 variations (G,GT,GY,GYA,GYB,GYS,WGTB, and WGY have the same pinout as a 5U4G. Is the WGB version different by some strange chance?, couldn't find it on TDSL.I popped in .......

Greetings- Most of the newer electrolytics that I've used (Nichicon,Elna. etc.) have a very tiny "arrow" pointing to ground , printed within that stripe. You may need some magnification to see it, but .......

I tried the Sovtek 5AR4/GZ34 a few years ago out of curiosity and I had a lot of problems (arcing just as you described) with them. I'm certainly no expert, but your "layout" sounds reasonable to me, .......

When you say "blown", I am assuming that the voice coils are burnt or stuck (test open),or the cones are torn up. If it's just a matter of replacing the foam surrounds, go for it, it's not very diffic .......

Not entirely sure what you are doing but keep in mind that a 5AR4 will require 5 volts as opposed to the 6X4 (6 volt) which you are currently using. If the 6X4 is working, I assume that you don't need .......

I beleive that is a driver that was manufactured for Ampex by JBL and from what I remember reading, it actually sounded better than it's JBL counterpart. The 755 series of drivers including the WE and .......

if those are the new style forked tongue sockets, do yourself a favour and change them out to some nice NOS Amphenol or Cinch Michanol tube sockets which really grab the tube pins and can be tightene .......

Greetings- The 6BM8/ECL82 is pentode /triode in one envelope, so more than likely the triode section is "driving" the pentode, so it would be a push/pull amp. It should be good for about 12 watts per .......

Plate structure looks more like some USA made 5V4G that I have. The "better" 5V4G have a second plate structure parallel with the first, that I assume makes it better at dissipating the heat. I'll try .......

I didn't have the Wright 3.5s set up when I posted this, so I put them back into the system and measured the hum (on the outputs) in both amps (which I previously remembered as being nearly inaudible .......

Greetings - If you can locate a pair, try the GE 5 star 6087 rectifier tube. It's got the same (50v) voltage drop as the 5y3 gt plus the added bonus of being indirectly heated. I use them in my Wright .......
