With a little help from the mpdpup site we settled on nrpacks=20 as the ideal setting. This can be changed quite easily using modprobe -r to unload the driver. From the command line, the following seq .......

I had problems with usb drives after file deletions as well. For me, I got it back be enabling some of the usb devices I had disabled as part of the cmp optimization. It is a little hard to explain, b .......

Basically yes to all. To export, in regedit it is File-export. It will export everything below the spot you have highlighted. It will prompt you for the file name. you need to get that file to the tar .......

I put a bunch back by going to another XP machine, open regedit go and hilite the key you want file->export to a filename on a jump drive then move drive to the cmp machine each reg file you double cl .......

I finished step 7 and have the same result as Rick. CMP always comes back to the desktop even tho I set it to start cmp on reboot. So I really can't get down into real cmp without explorer. I always h .......

In case someone else goes down this rat hole.. I fixed it by enabling all the usb devices. Now the usb hdd is recognized in the same usb ports that previously saw my mouse or dac but not the hdd. tha .......

Ditto here. On my system it was a small but worthwhile improvement. It is all cummulative and heading in the same direction. More air and separation around instruments. In this case the bass sprung to .......

I have now toggled it on "1" and off "0". There is no question on my system that this makes a very noticable change. Sound stage came forward and a little more 3d. Main change is more air and less con .......

Theob has accurately pointed out that there is lots of debate on this one. Many posts say that it was used for pre win2000 systems and is no longer used by XP. It is applicable to Explorer so logicall .......

I was doing some digging, trying to understand how deleting DLLs can have such a profound impact on SQ, and came across a registry change that forces DLLs to be unloaded. I added it to my CMP XP SP3 m .......

I too lost ability to use a thumb drive somewhere on this journey. If anyone figures out how to get USB to recognize a thumb drive or usb hdd, I would love to hear it. Not sure at what point it faile .......

My appologies, this was truely a false alarm. It seems a signal wire deep inside my DAC broke as I deleted the files. I have now got it working again, and have made these deletions and could not be ha .......

I don't want to raise an unwarrented alarm, but for me this did not work out. I can boot, cplay starts, and appears to play, but no sound. I am using aqvox asio driver. Perhaps something else is wron .......

Same experience on many fronts. Faster boot as well. No issue doing all deletes then one reboot then all registry changes then reboot and play. Also confused by WMA. .......

If you are using ASIO4ALL, try out the AQVOX ASIO driver. It is quite an amazing jump in sound quality, resolution and dynamics. I had been concerned that the TI PCM2706 based USB controller in my DAC .......

I still prefer no up sampling. I still find substantial difference between SRC and SOX. Both are excellent and IMHO have come closer together with each recent release. I find SRC slightly more musical .......

This is an excellent software volume control. I am using the lightspeed attenuator posted on diyaudio and find it a wonderful companion to cmp/cplay. Very affordable and to my ear allows the full pote .......

I must say that I am a fan of non up sampling. I use a NOS DAC and find that any level of oversampling in cplay kills the dynamics and presence of the sound. I just upgraded cplay from v18 to 22. Init .......
