I run my MMGs with a pair of Mark IIIs. Not originals but moderm kits from VTA (driver board) and DynaKit. The room (family room) which is open to the kitchen and dinette area ends up measuring 14x44 .......

I've had a Loki since it was first available. It's truly fantastic for minor tweaks. Have it hooked up the same way as you and for the same reasons. Really maximizes subwoofer integration. ::: TOPIC:: .......

Seems like you are really over thinking this. If you don't want to cut the ends off of your cables and 12 gauge wire won't fit the push sockets, then go to Home Depot and buy some 14 or 16 gauge wire .......

To convert to 120v/60hz I think you also need to slide the strobe light assembly to the proper position. It's a great table. In it's day, it was often paired with an SME 3009 or SME Series III tonearm .......

The Dyna 10X5 may very well be a good choice in the $400 range. If you like your MC20 Supreme you might be happier with the 2M Bronze. Its sound has a family resemblence and it also has a line contact .......

IMHO, you should ditch the cheap ring connectors, cut off the cheap spade connectors on the ends of the wires and solder the wires directly to the Cardas connectors. Going with such high quality Carda .......

I doubt you'll find any MC under $300 (new or used) that will better the Virtuoso. Maybe the Denon 103 but not sure if its compatible with the Satisfy arm. The Dynavector 10X5 at $430 mates well... :: .......

Yes, I'm sure. The choices are 15, 30 and 50 ohms on the MC input. This is a 30 year old preamp. Maybe carts of that era had different loading needs? The MM input is fixed at 47K with choice of .......

I don't know if its compatible with my arm. The cartridge database says "Denon publishes their dynamic compliance specifications relative to 100Hz . The actual compliance at 10Hz will be higher". See .......

You say the phono pre you are currently using has gain UP TO 65db. I take this to mean it has choices. I'm betting that it is not currently set at 65db for your 2.5mv cartridge. Its got to be set for .......

If Goldring recommends 1.75g VTF then that is what you should set it at regardless of what turntable or arm you have the cart mounted on. A test record score is OK to get you in the ball park but use .......

Since the arm is tapered, I have been relying on the white line printed on the side of the arm to establish a level position. Then I move the tail up/down from that point for final VTA. Now I'm wonder .......

Although I never took measurements, the 55dB with "ALL OFF" and "HIGH OUTPUT" seems about right to me. That was how I ran mine with a 2.5mv MC cart. Still too much gain but I never trusted the LO OUTP .......

I used the Audio Technica ATH-W1000 closed cans for a few years with the SEX amp. Great combo IMO. I would say they are less veiled and also have better defined bass. AT offers a couple models up and .......

Using "convential" toe in thinking, the speakers would have to be toed in alot more than 7 degrees if you can see the outside edge from a 71/2 foot listening position. Am I missing something? ::: TOPI .......

I agree with your other point, Maggies are difficult to set up and I would add that they require alot of real estate which a dealer may not want to give up. But less profit margin? Not so sure about t .......

The stock wood base interferes just a little bit. Some chiseling or even grinding is all that is needed. Also, the mounting hole in the chassis needs to be opened up to 0.400 inches. Wire it the same .......

My guess is that there is no internal crossover. You'll need to rely on the speaker's crossover (passive bi-amping) or an external powered crossover (active bi-amping). .......

I tried the MMGC and never could get it to blend with my MMGs. Sent it back on the 60 day trial... Believe it or not, I now use a B&W CDM-C SE with the surround crossover set to "large center speaker" .......

Amperex did'nt make a steel pin 7308. Only gold pin. Most likely they are from Richardson Electronics who now own the Amperex brand name. They buy tubes from a variety of current mfgs, put the Amperex .......

You need to use the 75 ohm version for digital. In that same system when I had aluminum tweeters I was also using an outboard DAC and separate jitter filter. So I ran an 18 inch run from CDP to jitter .......

I don't own one but was thumbing through an AVR-300 owners manual recently. If it is hooked up in a 5.1 system instead of 7.1, the two extra amps can be configured to bi-amp the front speakers! Goto A .......

Found some .68uf DynamiCaps at Percy Audio. These will replace the stock .68uf/400v Audyn-Caps in my Heart CD player. I'll have to be a little creative with placement because the D-caps are muck large .......

How about no solder at all. Instead, punch a hole in the foil, bend the end of the wire into the shape of an eye bolt then bolt them together with brass screws, nuts and sandwich everything with brass .......

For starters, read Joe's Tube Lore in the FAQ section for construction details. All Amperex orange globes should have: Acid etched manufacturing codes with a delta symbol and date should be somewhere .......

I tried it with my MMGs. It was very directional (narrow horizontal dispersion) and it sounded thin, weak. Male vocals sounded nasel. This is unacceptable since the center channel has alot of dialog. .......

Most likely your MMGs have a 2.2mH inductor for the lows and a 12uF capacitor for the highs. However, the only way to be sure is to take a peek inside. You may be able to see through the cloth by shin .......

unbelievably microphonic! Not only could I hear the lightest of taps on any part of the preamp, I could also hear my finger sliding across the top of the volume knobs! Replaced them with a pair of NOS .......

I'm one of the copper foil inductor fans. I chose 2.20mH and went with 12 guage to keep the resistance as close to stock as possible. Alpha-Core brand mostly because of all the praise here and I was'n .......

Positioning the 1.6s in that space will no doubt be an issue. If it were me, I would spend the money on better electronics or source. .......
