Operating pre-amp less, I didn't experience a mid-bass suck-out either. Bass is fine, middle-mids to the highest frequencies too. It's the lower-mids that seem to be absent, compared to my active pre, .......

I see your point, but, with all due respect, I doubt it. The author of The Audio Critique knows all about impedance matches and mis-matches, and has used (and advocated) a passive/pre-amp less system .......

Liquidmidrange, you're right. And I'd go further to say that, compared to the very best in existence, this pre-amp was a steal at less than two grand, new. At its 'used' price of a grand or less, it's .......
