I used the scott nixon tube dac +(with upgraded power supply) in my system for about a week. It was on loan for a friend. It was excellent from the midrange up, and definetly had some kind of "magic". .......

I first heard the quintet recording through a boombox in a noisey bar in the east village, NYC. I had to have it. I agree that the recording, (done by mingus on a portable reel to reel) is not so hot .......

I've heard them briefly at a shop here in NYC. They seemed very good - airy,transparent and musical. They were however driven by a very, very expensive pair of 300b monos(canary) and a pricey front en .......

In my room it was about 24" from back of speakers. The bass was articulate, so maybe "plummy" isn't a perfect description. "rich" may be better. Still to produce 40 hz, you are getting a bit of inform .......

Always enjoyable. It also excells in one area that most other mags fail - great photos(inside and out) of the gear reviewed. Very few mags these days make me want to whip out the credit card and do so .......

Hi Keith, I own the MG 12's with just the fuse/attenuator mods done. My cousin owns the Vandy 2ce's with CJ pre(tube) power(solid state). I am a big fan of the Vandy's - great dynamics good balance/im .......

I've only only used Rca engraved base ST 45's. With my ed schilling horn they are wonderful. My 2a3 is the sovtek which is has a firmer but less clear bass , and seems less liquid than the NOS 45's. T .......

I use a pinnacle subsonic with my 4" fostex speakers - ed shillings "horn". The subsonic is a 7" cube with 6.5" drivers in a dipole configuration. My guess is that despite the fact the specs say this .......

the M3 is a fine pre, and assume the L1 is very similar. Be careful though as the M3's have tons of gain and you may find yourself with some problems if you are running it along with a sensitive amp, .......

I can't say exactly what you will hear but these are my impressions of the horn. I switched from a meadowlark kestral hotrods which is 89 db and a fairly flat 8ohm load. The horn is probably around 94 .......

For those who helped. Checked the tube and it was not the culprit. Went back underneath and found a loose power cap and resoldered. Fired it back up and no noise whatsoever. Now, I'm not sure this was .......

I don't think there is a problem. I have some paperwork from Don that shows 5y3, 5u4, and 5r4 as being interchangable in his amp. FWIW, though mine is a bit of an oddball being a stereo amp built into .......

I use the hornshoppe speaker in SET based system. Obviously a 4" inch driver will severly limit max volume and bass extension. What it won't limit is an incredible mucical transparency that is better .......

yeah, agree with AnandR, above. 8 watts min, 16 will probably cover all the bases. Had a similar speaker, kestral hr, and that's what I found. Of course, these posts usually prelude by about six month .......

my experience with the grado platinum ($300) was very positive. It's strengh's, IMO, were a smoothness in the midrange and a slight roll off of upper and lower frequency's. Kinda of plays to the stren .......

I had the same experience with a CJ MV 52, 45 watts and a damping factor of about 10, I think. Luxurious is how I'd describe the sound, but eventually the bass wooliness got tiring. I really can't see .......

the 2a3 was an experiment that I knew was borderline, but works surprisingly well(moderate volumes). That being said, I'm looking at higher efficiency stuff - just wish there was more out there to cho .......

Phil, I don't know what the used market is like over there, but I think you'd be very happy with Rel q100e. I had one with a pair of epos es12's for some time and it was the only sub I could ever get .......

It was a brief audition so take this with a grain of salt. They were very easy to listen to without being boring. I would guess they'll do a good job of reflecting whats being feed them, in this case .......

Sell the Hales and pickup a pair of Meadowlark Kestrals or Kestal hotrods (750-1100 used). These are 89dbw and an easy load and will make your jolida sound like a new amp. I really don't think your Jo .......

One of you guys below had actually turned me on to the TAPE IN hookup as the best sonic connection. To my ears, it sounded more transparent that AUX. (BTW, thanks for the tip). But ultimately wouldn' .......

Before I sold it the remote from my arcam integrated worked on the MM2 that I have. These are phillips transports so you shouldn't have a problem finding something that works. .......
