No bootcamp. Duncan has a version for Macs. There is also a discussion on DIY audio, the version available from Duncan is a little quirky but once you get it running it works fine. .......

I recently finished a project that uses 300Bs. They are Gui Guang 300B that I purchased a few years ago as backup. The amp uses fixed bias and according to the WE data sheet 70 ma is the maximum plate .......

What about long term reliability for a rectifier run at maximum rating? In a SE circuit there is a more or less constant current draw, and although there are actually new production tubes available I .......

Thanks, it would seem that 6by5 are abundant and inexpensive. They are rated for 175ma and the circuit I have in mind draws 150ma. Should work don't you think? .......

I just finished a 45 circuit closely based on Ale Moglia's 7193/45 schematic. Plate and cathode voltages measure very close to the desired voltages in both channels, with a dummy load and inputs sh .......

These have 2 solder tabs on the high voltage side labelled "plate' and AC Ground" Do I connect the tab marked plate to the output tube's plate and the AC Ground to the B+? or does it really matter as .......

Thanks for clarifying. I read the spec sheet for the Raytheon 0A2WA and the Krypton 85 is there so that they strike in the dark. But that has not been my experience:( .......

I did test them basically substituting successively smaller series resistors until I was up to about 240 volts and no glow. All the ones that would not light up were all Raytheon 0A2WA with the same d .......

Half-life of krypton is about 11 years. These tubes were made in the early '60s. So 70 years later perhaps not surprising they they show little inclination to light up. I started out with a high value .......

I have a preamp that uses 0A2WA voltage regulator tubes. These are 150 volt regulators and one channel lights up and the other does not. The one that does light up is a Philips and the other are Rayth .......

I suppose that to be the case as there is a large difference in resistance between either side of the HV winding. If you have some other interpretation of that I am all ears. .......

Good advice. How do you size the CT fuse? My best lesson learned from this is to not be cheap and size the PT with lots of current margin:) .......

I have. I measured the resistance across the HV secondary, and then from the CT to each side of the winding. One side measured 12 ohms and the other measured 58 ohms. I have found a replacement transf .......

You are certainly correct about the choke input giving you more current. However Hammond specify their power transformers FW CT and capacitor input for their rated current. .......

Did you read the article accompanying the schematic? JE is following the values given on the tube data sheet for the 46 triode connected, which are 22ma and 250 volt on the plate. Check the data sh .......

That's an excellent idea except most of the tubes suggested are single devices that would need additional sockets. That would necessitate a total rebuild of the preamp, something I would be reluctant .......

The transformer is a Lundahl LL7903. For 1:2 connection Zobel as suggested by the manufacturer is 30k and 400pf, driven by 600 ohm source. .......

It is a Lundahl LL7903 setup for 1:8. It is effectively terminated by the grid circuit of a 46 in triode connection. Ale Moglia has done this and says that the source needs to be low impedance without .......

I am pleased to report that my problem is fixed, I removed the humpots which were 2 watt 100 ohm multiturn pots and biased the output tubes using the filament transformer center-tap. A little buzz but .......

As in the title JE Labs simple 45/2A3. There are 2 versions, one that uses the center tap of the filament transformer to bias the output tube, and the other uses a hum pot, which is the version I use .......

I guess it would be a good idea to summarise. Installed all tubes except rectifier, everything lights up. With dummy loads on the output transformers and inputs shorted voltages measure nearly perfect .......

I have measured the voltage from chassis to wall outlet ground and it measures ~ 1 volt AC. I lifted the safety ground and the hum is still there. Ground loop? or magnetic induction? .......

Before hooking up a pair of speakers all the voltages measured fine. Using an ipad as a source I get the hum. Another DIY amp is dead silent with the same source, and plugged into the same outlet. So .......

My experience with these is that they start out good but do not last very long, many I have used lasted only 400 to 500 hours before deteriorating rapidly. Just my 2 cents worth, YMMV .......

Is this something you can measure or can it be calculated from the tube's data sheet? E.g. 2A3 is 2.5 volts and 2.5 amps so it should be 1 ohm (2.5V/2.5A). I suspect there is more to it than that and .......

Actually all other things being equal floorstanding speakers tend to be larger speakers and somewhat more efficient than bookshelf speakers. Your Marantz likely will work fine. .......

I get 3.3 mv with one and 2.9 with the other. I assume I would get ~5.5mv by adjusting the pot, the fact I get any reading likely means the BFS 862 is shot. The back to back zeners on one board measur .......

I visited Bartola Valves where I found plate curves for the vt25. At -5volts bias and 10 ma you actually do get 170 plate volts. Seems that the old data sheet plate curves are not too accurate. ::: TO .......

Nothing inconsistent at all. In my original post I said -0.4 volts was measured and the winding was 400 ohms. 400 ohms/0.4 volts gives 1 ma of current, so I concluded what I was measuring was the volt .......

I found a circuit on the web that uses a 24 volt transformer and a voltage doubler to provide the -32 volts I need. Assembled everything and was able after a few adjustments to get the necessary volta .......

I am using a Hammond product so feel reasonably confident about following their recommendations. Which in the case I am enquiring about DC volts equals 0.9 times AC volts, and DC current equals 0.94 t .......

Not sure what you mean. I would ground the positive side of the supply and the negative would be connected via a voltage divider to the grid of the output tube via a winding in the interstage trans .......

Well sort of simple! I removed the tubes and replaced them one at a time, output tubes first and the voltage came up. When I installed the 5965 the voltage sagged. So I removed the 71As and the voltag .......

My instinct was also the PS caps, which I removed. They all measure like new but I replaced them anyway. Unfortunately I still have the same problem. So I removed the boards for the filaments because .......

One of a new matched pair of 2A3s make a sort of hissy, fizzy noise that lasts 5 or 6 seconds shortly after the amp is powered up. After that it can play for hours without any noise. The amp has cycle .......

Unloading the power supply is unlikely to prove anything unless you connect a suitable dummy load to it. That is, one that approximates the resistance of stages that it is powering. OTOH chokes hum to .......

The arm has one of those heavier wands I got on ebay, supposed to give it an effective mass of around 11 grams to make it work better with lower compliance carts without resorting to the damping paddl .......

Reading up on these phenomena I decided to let it run in a circuit with a signal and after 3 hours or so plate voltage was up to the 90 volts I expected. Probably the cathode needed reforming? Thanks .......

I set up a 6N30Pi tube as the driver stage using a CCS. Looking at plate curves on Steve Bench's site I used 10ma, -5 volt bias. This should result in a plate voltage of around 90 volts. Only problem .......

A little investigation reveals that a Jelco 370 H has the same stylus to pivot distance as a Rega but of course the arm pillars are radically different in dimensions. The diameter of the Jelco is 16 m .......

I understand this to be about 10pf. If I allow about 20pf/foot of tonearm cabling of a standard Rega RB250 then there is about a total of 70pf capacitance (for ~ 3 feet). I've ordered a Soundsmith SMM .......

I think your biggest problem will be getting the 10 to work noise free since it needs 7.5 volts for the heaters. As an output tube transformer coupled it is possible to use AC and be reasonably quiet .......

You need 8 220 ohm grid stoppers, I also got 6, used a couple I had in the parts bin. I think you can get away with other values of up to about 1000 ohms as long as they go in same position as regards .......

FWIW I find that as the quality of the vinyl playback improves the less annoying the clicks and pops become, its almost as if better quality equipment lets more of the music through and less of the no .......

The plate chokes are stock Electraprint, 8037 is # I believe. I got the output trannies several years ago from a fellow inmate at a good price. Electraprint doesn't list them so they are probably cust .......

Having gotten the amp to work with stock iron I have substituted Electraprint output trannies (10K:8ohm parafeed) and Electraprint plate chokes. Sound is less wooly and more extended than before. .......

Got my conversion to 10/vt25 to work, basically by substituting conventional cathode bias for the S.E.X. amp's fixed bias. Removed the final driver stage power supply and grounded the now final 47u .......

No mention of grid resistance values for fixed bias on any of the data sheets for vt25 that I was able to find, but if I recall correctly for many other DHTs its usually something like 100K max. ::: T .......

Hello Doc Filament transformer is 2 coils on one frame, 2 120V primaries and 2 7.5 V secondaries, no center tap on secondary. Primaries are merely paralleled with the power transformer primary connec .......

A few other things I get only 3.8 volts on the filament secondary before the fuse blows. Good continuity on the primary and secondary and I also tested this tranny on a good vt25 and got 7.4 volts bef .......

At the moment I'm waiting for some 4 pin sockets that will fit in the 8 pin socket holes in the chassis, then I will get started. Have a nice filament transformer that fits nicely between the sockets. .......

I see that Rb for each channel is 620 ohms which gives a bias voltage of -17 volts. I'd like to change it to -32 volts so I imagine its simply a matter of changing the value of Rb. I'm sure it can be .......

Your 5670 has a plate resistance of around 6000 ohms, so a load of 600 ohms is inadequate. Probably needs something like 15 kohms. Also not sure what you need gain for since 5670 has mu of around 35 w .......

This is the second S.E.X. amp I have built, the other is working fine and was built a couple of years ago. When I power down the recently finished one I get a loud pop. Only occurs with the newer one .......

I get a reading on my voltohm meter of 26 ohms for a speaker rated as being 8 ohms. 2 other identical models measure 5 ohms. Can someone enlighten me as to what is going on? TIA .......
