I was surprised to find nothing in the speakers. I had a couple of pairs of C/Vs, also ported, that didn't have any polyfill in them. Well, that I could see. I never had the midranges or tweeters out .......

I've a bit of a conundrum. The potentiometer currently in the preamp is an Alps RK27 50K. It appears to be original, not replaced/serviced. All the PV-10B schematics and parts lists list a 100K value. .......

"Flat" D or square'ish getter? That's the later and last CBS 5814A type. As Pat S points out, the upward/tilted/bent rectangular getter is the earlier one. I've found these two tubes to reliably sound .......

As has been mentioned, Westinghouse did manufacture their own 12AU7. They do look similar to quite a few other BP 12AU7s types, but there are typically some clues to ID them. The octagon and type mark .......

As others have pointed out, Beckman made test instruments. No problem with the Beckman name silkscreened on a tube, may even be a benefit, just be sure you know exactly what tube is under the printing .......

Technically, there's no issue. A ("typical") KT88 and a KT100 can interchange in any socket. IIRC, both have similar ratings, and both higher maximum ratings than a ("typical") 6550. Sonically, dunno. .......

I've really like all the Shuguang 6550 and KT88 variants I've used - all of them. The KT88-98s and 6550A-98s in my Conrad Johnson Premier 12s have given lovely results driving many different speakers .......

Short of a short, and I've had only a couple small signal tubes ever fail catastrophically, sound quality just fades. No/flat dynamics, frequency response extension constricts both top and bottom, gai .......

Good suggestion. When the receiver is turned on, everything plays just fine, then the channel cuts out. No sputtering, crackling, or other noises. Listening close to the speaker, I can hear the source .......
