Ditch the S/S rectifier(s). To wire each 5AR4 as a single diode, connect both plates together in each tube. Since the two plates already have a common cathode (pin 8), all you need is a single diode .......

Not in this example. The 12AU7 won't do it. That, however, isn't the most important reason that the tube sounds ratty. The main reason is that its plate height VS width, and its cathode height work .......

I couldn't agree more, except in the case of JBL's old Paragon, last built in 1982.. This double 3-way single Stereo system really worked if re-wired with heavy silver wiring, which it required, but .......

The JBL Paragon does what MUSIC does-- it must cover the whole venue. Most other speakers do what AUDIOPHILES do-- the opposite of MUSIC-- they play a headset into their ears. Music does not do this .......

A switch on B+ always adds noise, and the sudden turn-on of B+ is NOT good, either. As the guys say, leave the switch out. If you do have tube stress (on any tube) from initial warmup, insert a Therm .......

It's all in the speaker, it's cabinetry and internal wiring, not to mention speaker cables. Efficiency ratings on many speaker systems do not relate to other manufacturer's speakers and speaker drive .......

The 2A3-40 was chosen because it is more efficient at converting input into output-- than any other 2A3. This does not mean more maximum watts output, what it does mean is a far better "jump-factor"- .......

With no B+ applied, and only the filament running, you can easily melt solder on top of the tube. Parallelling output tubes (there are FOUR welded together inside the tube) is a lot like a BiPlate t .......
