Depending on your price range and room size, you may want to research these. I have Avantgarde Duo Omegas (18 ohm/107 dB) in my big rig, singing with 3.5wpc 2A3 power, and DeVore O/96s (10 ohm/96 dB) .......

My 107dB Duo Omegas actually fare much better with 3.5wpc 2A3 monos than they did with 8wpc 300B monos (particularly in the bass - despite the powered subs, if one connects the amps using speaker leve .......

Try a Cary SLP-05 with good NOS tubes...Big Tone, plus extension at the frequency extremes. The humble SLP-98 comes with Chinese tubes from the factory; perhaps that's how you heard it. But I used to .......

But my findings are quite different: my old SLP-98 F1 direct coupled version - while a fantastic choice for the money - is decisively outclassed by my current SLP-05 running single-ended: more detail, .......

I only use the stock EH tubes in the (unused in my system) headphone and balanced output positions, just as placeholders. Had much better results (tubier, denser sound yet with no loss of extension) w .......

The AMR gives several oversampling & upsampling choices; best results to my ears (and manufacturer recommendation) is no over/upsampling. Seems to give a more holistic sound, without the aural equival .......

...on my AMR CD-77.1 the best sound is obtained at bog standard CD resolution. The upsampling & oversampling options just add a synthesized "edge enhancement" effect which quickly grows tiresome. ::: .......

My Cary SLP-98 has L&R gain controls, as well as overall volume control. They work as de facto balance controls too. With my 108 dB Avantgardes, I'm able to used a low gain setting (about 1/4 of max) .......

Use the 8 ohm taps and check your tubes - probably that, or something else failing in the amp or preamp. I used to run my 300B amps into Reference 3A Royal Masters (older version of your De Capos) and .......

The bass cabs have 200 WPC SS amps built in, w/100 dB sensitive drivers...though the character of the bass is indeed affected (beneficially, to my ears) by using a tube amp which gets the first watt r .......
