The Harkness uses only one D130. The C31 used two stacked one above the other and probably therefore lowered the resonant frequency. The speakers were recessed and faced a wide horn built into the enc .......

Had a windstorm the other day that took down some power lines in the area that created power outage for about 15 mins. It also seemed to take out my ST-85 and to damage the selectivity of my Dynaco FM .......

Not really .... a Dual specialist with the knowledge I seek would likely know the ins and outs of most types of Duals. But if you really want to know, it is a 701 direct drive. .......

Nowadays, even fairly inexpensive cartridges can be had with line contact or shibata style styli. If you have a good body, you can probably also get a shibat-style replacement stylus from JICO in Japa .......

Well I've received the 5300 and put it in my second system, where it sounds quite good when combined with my Counterpoint SA-1000 preamp. The amp really grabs hold of the bass and tightens it consider .......

It did sound better .... the "master" may well have been recorded/encoded in PCM, but it doesn't follow that it was downloaded at 16/44. In fact, it could well have been upsampled and converted to DSD .......

I can't play the excerpts, but I would expect the B&O (Dynaco in the USA) crossed ribbons to sound excellent....as they did forty years ago when I used them (along with Neumann and Schoeps) to record .......

The 200 series and even 100 series are more sensitive turners than the KM-60, FM-90 brethren. Accordingly, if DX'ng is your main interest, these are the tuners to have. The lesser Fishers have superb .......

The worst *is* easy: a tie between A Sherwood 3000 and an Eico HFT-90. The reason: they were both mono. :-) The best: for sheer sound quality, the slightly modified Fisher FM-90B's I have in my worksh .......

...this isn't just restricted to computers. SACD uses much of the DVD configuration but in non-standard ways...this confuses a player that looks first for DVD's (most do), so they get hung up and neve .......

Most likely it was the signal orientation of the stations antenna. Nowadays people listen to FM more in their cars than in their homes...and cars use vertical whip antenanas. So stations are more conc .......

Basically, to get the best, you use "bypass mode" in the sacd player so you are going straight to analog from DSD. This means no distance or volume compensation in the player or preamp, which in turn .......

Apparently there just isn't the demand, except at the very high end. Sony does make a copy of CD/SACD only players, but they are changers. I own one...the C2000ES. It is a fine SACD player and okay CD .......
