Not an expert, but I spent a lot of time with my 1218, and have these suggestions: Clean the surface where the idler touches the platter. It's very important this this surface be entirely free of dirt .......

I have no firsthand knowledge, but it's my understanding that the HH Scott integrated you have is much more desirable than the AR equipment. I haven't tried AR speakers with this setup yet, but their .......

The 17 is nice, but the 6 is nicer. Very similar tone, but the 6 has deeper bass and sounds fuller. I keep meaning to try them stacked, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'd guess (as you did too) .......

I used the stuff that Orange County speakers sells. It looks like Elmers glue and they included a small brush. I used the brush to start and finished with my finger. I didn't notice any difference. Ma .......

I received an HH Scott tube receiver from an eBay seller in a flimsy carboard box with only the equivalent of about 2 newspapers of padding on the corners. The knobs were bent and the bakelite tuning .......

that's exactly what it say's to do in the manual for the AR-XA. It has a very precisely sized spindle and I find some records very tight also. This has worked for me.. .......

I use a Grado Green in a Dual 1219 w/ a Marantz 2330B and it sounds pretty darn good, not lifeless at all. I've used an AT440Mla in the same system, and while it sounds better, it's not a lot better. .......

Unless the receiver has been all cleaned up, you may have the same problem I've been having with my 2330B - I get similar symptoms occassionally, and found that by rotating the speaker selector switch .......

I really like the Marantz too - you can just "feel" the power..things sound tighter and more immediate. The Scott, which has had servicing of the major caps and has good NOS tubes sounds real nice too .......

in this? I picked one up locally and haven't been thrilled with the sound thru my KLH 17's - it doesn't sound crisp enough, even with treble all the way up. Frankly, my Scott 222B blows it away in eve .......

I liked the link...however, in the first section, it states: "Furthermore, the temperature of the stylus rises to over 300 degrees Fahrenheit" I must be mis-reading this - that would melt vinyl! ::: .......
