An excellent reissue of this is the Japanese King pressing from the early 80's. These run around 20 or 30 bucks at the most and sound great (much better in my opinion) than latter Classic reissues etc .......

Jack, The birdland record is good but not in the same league as Workout or Mobley's Message. Its worth having but it pretty typical of Roulettes from that era. Probably legally questionable and a one .......

In my experience the King Bluenote pressings are excellent and a great value when compared to cost of first (or early) NY original pressings. .......

Larry Young put out a couple albums in th early 70's that were great. Lawernce of Newark is especially good and has a bunch of interesting people (e.g. James Blood Ulmer) playing on it. .......

Turns out what I picked up was an original pressing of BN 7005. Not bad for 10 bucks, although these aren't as collectable as the rest of the records from this era. I'm don't go crazy over dixieland, .......

I've said it before on this site. The new RVG remastered Bluenote CD's are totally passable and a great way to the music. Plus they're cheap. In the states you can pick them up for around 12 USD. No t .......

Even though this is a vinyl forum I would strongly suggest that you keep an eye out for CD's as well. I don't know what kind of music you're looking for, but the small niche market for music in Japan .......

I'd suggest a couple of the 70's Crusaders album like Crusaders 1 and Crusaders 2. Their early work as the Jazz Crusaders is also fun (and I think excellent), but there 70's stuff really moves in a mo .......

One more point. The first Sub Pop pressing of Bleach was on white vinyl followed by regular black vinyl. All of the other colored pressings were later and what I would consider reissues. .......

Crown reissues tend to be very poor. Many of them are poor stereo rechanneled from mono's. Many Liberty era bluenote pressings are excellent. Although they may not be at the standard of the late 50's .......

The answer to your question is no it wouldn't be hard at all. The JMW 9.0 which I'm assuming is the plinth on this comes drilled for has the same mounting geometry as the Rega RB-300. You probably nee .......

The grey six-eye masterworks labels were used from 1955 to 1962. The masterworks group was a different division than the group that released the "regular" red 6-eye lable as far I know. Columbia also .......

This album was released in 1957 as both a stereo release and mono issue as far as I know. Many of the late 50's RVG were recorded such that you could cut true stereo and Blue Note was an early adopte .......

Yes those recordings were incredibly well done and they still hold up well. I'd say that the 80's reissues (especially the DMM issues) are the worst of the bunch. Good for you if you still have a bunc .......

I doubt seriously that there's an answer to this because it depends on so many things. Many manufacturers use low mass clamps that bind the record mechanically (i.e screw down) other designs use mecha .......

I guess my point with the DMM reissues was this: Most of the original recordings that these pressings were made from were amazingly good so its not surprising that even poorly executed reissues sound .......

I haven't heard all that many of them, but in my opinion you're not really gaining much from these reissues. I'd say a better route would be the early 70's reissues which you can pick up for around 10 .......

That's the only problem with the early stereo mixes...The style is definitely hard left-hard right-center without a lot of fill. The mono's are of course much different. Lately I've seen original 60- .......

The stereo issue of this isn't a reissue. Both mono and stereo versions were issued of this album in 63 and the ebay photo's look like they're both "New York" pressings from near the same time. As far .......

I totally enjoy Miles' work from this era. Most of what he did in the 70's get dismissed by some people but if you listen to albums like Big Fun or Dark Magus there's actually a lot of interesting sin .......

Deep groove typically refers to pressing rather than recording. In the 50's and (I think) even into the early 60's a handfull of label (Bluenote for example) used pressing plants that created records .......

In a Silent Way was released in 1969. Off the top of my head I can't remember when the 6 eye label ended, but it was well before 1969. I think that the diagnostic tools here are the color of the lette .......

My suggestion is to open the puppy up and take a listen. Blues Walk is one seriously great album and should be enjoyed. I agree with others that its probably one of the newer reissues. .......

Yeah but the sound quality on the DMM's is still really poor relative to all the other pressings out there. You're better off with the 70's reissues. The DMM's are selling because the samplers and dj' .......

I read (or heard) somewhere that the label/owner of the original master tapes of some of the Deep Purple albums wouldn't release the tapes for remaster. As a result one (or some) of the Deep Purple CD .......

As stated above the Blue Label (blue b) 70's pressings are usually pretty good and in many cases RVG was involved with the repressing. The late 60's blue and white label Liberty pressings are also gre .......

Looks original to me as well. I think that the Japanese reissues all have mark's that differentiate the vinyl and I don't see them anywhere in the picture. My understanding is the Blue Notes from this .......
