Well, I have put an SSD into my MacMini and it was not that hard. There are a lot of screws to remove but information on how to do it is readily available on the internet. I use a FW DAC and probably .......

You're better off using one of web interfaces if you have a mobile phone. I used to use the mobile web interface on a Nokia N95. But iPeng is hands down better. Like night and day. Buying the cheapest .......

To add to some of the suggestions. I have also a Macbook Air and it is very nice. it has become my primary personal computer. However, I strongly prefer using the Remote app on the iPad on even iPeng .......

The Mac is the more cost effective solution. To find an "audiophile" DAC that compares with a Metric Halo (Mac only) you would have to spend $8000 and then worry about expensive sound cards. A Mac Min .......

I used to think Transport comparisons were bogus for the most part until I heard a Transporter driving a LIO-8 via AES/EBU vs. that LIO-8 being driven by F/W. Suffice it to say difference was clearly .......

I use a Nexentastor powered ZFS appliance. I doubt you can do better. Just google it, very easy to set up. I would use 2 in mirrored mode just in case one breaks. .......

You can't use the MacBook Air with the Metric Halo. It lacks a FW port. The Air is a great machine and it is a great client machine. It's the one you want on your lap, the one you use. For your Music .......

I suppose step 1 is to convert back to WAV with dBpoweramp and verify that the WAV is indeed identical. I suspect Charles Hansen has already done this. Could we use the Metric Halo loop back one chan .......

I agree on FW vs. S/PDIF as that has been my experience with my equipment, and yes "way" better is how I see it also. However sure there must be a way to prove that a WAV converted to FLAC/ALAC/AIFF a .......

The reinstall worked. It plays back correctly again. The machine is used only to run iTunes and with that in mind hopefully nothing will cause it to break again. .......

Okay we did some research. The problem only occurs in itunes, but not in Quicktime. I'm inclined to believe the latest itunes screwed something up. Need to test Windows iTunes next. .......

I just tested the same file from Alan Parson and Stephen Court "Sound Check" Track 4, and converted to WAV in Media Monkey on Windows and then converted that file in XLD to ALAC on a Mac. I get the sa .......

You are right about Flac to Alac in XLD, I suppose it converts to PCM and then uses core audio to convert to ALAC. However I will test Wav to ALAC in XLD. But I also used the supported WMA Lossless to .......

I did not know that. I deleted my dBpoweramp generated ALAC libraryin order to have iTunes convert it thinking staying within the Apple encoder would be better. Now I guess I'll reconvert with dBpower .......

I just tested the FLAC again in VLC on Mac, it plays correctly. I tried conversions to AAC and even AIFF and this problem occurs. This is a serious indictment of Apple's entire audio conversion framew .......

To be fair $150 is nothing in the audiophile world. It is the tax on some snake oil cable somewhere. We will disable that screen and what not, but it needs to be there to market a cost effective prod .......

DVD-video was half the format it should have been (they could have made it a bonafide progressive scan format with interlacing done in the player for older TVs). As for DVD-A, the less said the better .......

there is a program that lets it attach to the iTunes scripting interface so iTunes automatically encodes the EAC rip, attaches tags and places it in the iTunes library. It's almost as simple as using .......

SACD itself is supposed to have very advanced error correction. Although the much higher data density allows scratches to have a larger effect on the reading, I always thought that there was an improv .......

Your best bet is to get a burner that does both formats (very common now) and try different media. I have heard stories where people have tried one brand of media and it didn't work but another brand .......

I would guess that the discs will work in existing players. Sony made sure that multichannel SACDs were compatible with the first stereo only players. In that case I believe they had that whole thing .......

The printing on the cover indicates that it is a DVD-A and there even seems to be a DVD-A sticker on it. But you never know, maybe they've released that they have no hope of selling them in any reason .......

I have a stereo only player and I can tell you that if you do casual comparisons between the CD layer and the SACD layer on any SACD that you will hear a difference. The CD does seems to missing a sen .......

In theory the error correction with SACDs is much better than CD so some scratches may have less impact on audibility. We really won't know for sure until someone tries a comparison and in this hobby .......

As far as I know most amplifiers do not have a line out, some may have a pre-out but that signal is meant to drive a power amplifier. In your situation I would look into getting an outboard phono stag .......

It's been my experience that the audiophile stuff is more finicky than the cheap stuff. All of the cheap players I've used have played every disc I've put into them reliably, but the more expensive or .......
