7 liter? isnt that like 10x10x4.5" ? the speakers wouldnt even fit in that! they are 5 inches deep and 9 inches around...can I use a bigger cab with a different port? thanks, T .......

looks like I can build a 24 x 12 x 10 enclosure with 3/4"plywood, divide in the middle and get the right volume...T .......

I am worried a little becuase of the wierd parameters of the fe208sigma. QTS of .21, xmax of .75mm. seems like it would be VERY enclosure sensitive. it might be easier because we are just talking cove .......

I have 2 fostex FE208 sigmas sitting in boxes and they will rot to hell eventually since I will never use them. I do however need a 2x8" guitar cabinet...so...is there any chance I can build something .......

teresonic speakers based on lowthers might meet your needs, I am partial to horns so perhaps something form the Klipsch reference serie (RB 8) or even the palladium series P-17B. among vintage speaker .......

in near filed listening, in a studio, I would think that beaming absolutely is useful. get somewhat close to the monitor, get the sound as directly as possible into your ears, reduce reflections that .......

that does look like a nice DAC, I like the lack of coupling caps in the output. I must admit that I too like the fact that apple eliminated the DAC from its phone, while it may force some current folk .......

not just because I own one but a Marantz 7T is a fine SS preamp. it has great tone and switching controls and is very well built. some refresh of caps would be in order for any vintage unit but it hol .......

did anyone mention the JBL 4435? 96db and very dymanic and detailed...the altec model 19, klipschorns...all very efficient and dynamic speakers...if vintage is your bag that is...they didn´t call it t .......

RB-61 from Klipsch are about $500 and 95db efficient (KL-650-THX gets you 97db but it costs $1,500). hard to break the laws of physics though, want lower than 50hz and fill a normal sized room you nee .......

the budget will determine the options. I like klipsch for lowish pricing and high efficiency. Cornwalls, la scalas or k-horns can get a LOT out of 1.5 watts (htough the k-horns may be too big for your .......

I to am a maggies to horn guy and have never looked back. I do find find that people who have a liking for the horn sound tend to also prefer panel speakers, when compared to DR that is...warm regards .......

I find many people that seem to like horn speakers for thier dynamics but can't seem to settle down for a life time with horns often are satisfied with panel speakers. Maggies run off high power amps .......

horns allow for startling dynamics and high SPLs when called upon. Try a klipschorn for close to live sound. The second closest I have found are large panel speakers like the Maggie 20s. best regards, .......

Stick with the slow start up of a GZ34, get a good one and forget about rectifiers form now on. You could try a GZ37 which has just about the same characteristics as the GZ34, it is a bit more robust. .......

the AK-3 is a nice crossover. I suspect that upgrading caps and coils could make a difference in sound. I switched to the ALK crossover and was happy with the improved highs and lows BUT I do not know .......

another way to use an electronic crossover is to nail down the desired settings for a passive. Buy a behringer electronic crossover, fiddle with the setting until you get something that measures/sound .......

You should have great results with the dynaco monoblocks and any of the preamps mentioned. k-horns like tubes. I had McIntosh SS, then Dynaco tube, now DHT PP, small improvements all the way but none .......

I agreee totally about needing the widest range possible, my point is that I do not like 300 or 500hz crossovers (or even 800hz though that is less problematic IMHO) because 300 and 500 *DO* cut throu .......

The vocal range runs from 75hz (the bottom of the bass voice range) to 940hz (the very top of the Soprano range) so any crossover above 1khz is free of the vocal range. Even the Soprano sax only reac .......

gotta be a 45 amp with a k-horn...104db and a 2 watts amp (downwind)...I have auditioned that combo in my not so small room and it produced reasonable volume (enough for loud james brown!) but I ended .......

PWK worked with Brook to produce a 2A3 PP monoblock with a built in crossover for the Klipschorn it was called the 12A-K1 I think. AFAIK that is the only tube amplifier project that Klipsch was ever i .......

Do you have corners? You did not mention budget but Klipschorns will give you 104db/watt and nearly full range, I also like the Avantgarde Dous. The other speakers mentioned would be compromises IMHO .......

EL34s are NOT the same thing as EL84s use only EL84s in your amp. good new replacments are available from EI, JJ and Sovtek. I think the EI and JJ are the faves around here. if you are willing to buy .......

those blankets I think are causing the tubes to retain the heat and blocking it from reaching the cooler. thinks of the metal vanes as heat sinks. try it without the kevlar socks and let us know what .......

I found my alks to be a mixed bag...they provide a nearly perfect 8ohm load to the amp, so they are quite SET/DHT friendly, that is good. they seem to provide just slightly "clearer" and deeper bass a .......

this depends so much on what tubes, what circuit topology, etc. it is hard to answer definitively. However, in my amplifier I have the ability to use 5U4G and variants as well as 5R4 and 5AR4 tubes. n .......

I wonder why you do not upgrade one piece at a time. if not just to see what each component brings to the party. i.e. add the tenor amp to your system first, then the meitner DAC, the add the speakers .......

I bought sorbothane in sheet form form www.mcmaster.com a 4" x 4" x 1/2" piece was $7.32 cut it into four pieces 2x2x1/2 and you have a great isolation pod for very little money, highly recommended! s .......

I have the ones used for physics demonstrations (one ball bounces, the other does not) and have used them with great success. I have even tried super balls versus the dead balls and found the dead bal .......
