Only real way is to LOOK at the 60/120hz ripple on the B+ as it passes thru the filtering sections (Series R's Parallel C's) and see how low it gets. Need an oscilloscope - and one that can take 300 v .......

I usually measure both the B+ and filament voltages and if necessary add a series resistor to either/both sources to get them "in the ballpark" - i.e. 6.3V for filaments (If that is what it's supposed .......

Does/does'nt one of your tuners have a signal strength meter? If so use that to aim the antenna. If you can see the mountain / antenna location, the tuners are probably "limiting" i.e "fully" getting .......

Totally agree - local stations (only) play a continuing "mix" of maybe 30 songs. Realized one only transmits in mono - when asked, they said that their multiplex generator has been broken for years. I .......

Tre et al, I had no trouble using the stock 70 transformer. Used a choke input filter to lower the B+ for the 6B4's. By switching/selecting outputs, was able to get the hum level down to very low lev .......

The answer to the question is - yes it can! A choke-input filter has a more level V-I "curve" but does cut down the output voltage quite a bit. Way back, I did a DIY project using a Stereo 70 chassis/ .......

As to your question. I just hook up a scope to the output of the amp in question - in the circuit with power on and look at what happens. With nothing playing, there shouldn't be any signal coming int .......

Can you find out from the owner or a service manual if the power supply transformer has multiple primaries or taps on it? Most Japanese equipment made for use in the US had only a 115 primary. For Eur .......

Do agree that the two best tuners I have ever heard are the REL and the Rhode Schwarz - both at Romy's. The RS was "quieter". This was in downtown Boston so sensitivity was not an issue. RF gain contr .......

Your tape could very well have been used in a radio station - but not necessarily an "automated format" one. In the late 60's I worked at WBMI, an FM station in Meriden, CT. The format was ALL 7 1/2" .......

There is a way to electrically do something about this if you have the ability. Find and "wire out" the HF adjustment in the playback EQ circuit to the front panel of the deck. It's typically a 5K pot .......

Relatively biased response. Here in the US the Lyrec Frieda seems to be the most common machine. I've seen maybe a half dozen and most have had some kind of problem - primarily with the capstan motor. .......

I believe you are out of luck. The MFC line were chips in configurations special to motorola. You won't find a cross with the same case. If you are lucky you might find another chip that has the same .......

Problem is in the multiplex section. A lot of things happen differently when it switches from mono to stereo. If it started happening "out of the blue" I'd suspect a bad tube - find and swap out V501 .......

Rob, The "picture frame" front panel does come off. It's held on by two "clips" on the left and right side. Pry it forward - if need be by using a knife or some other slim strong blade inserted bet .......

Just checked the heads on my machine - they are the German Bogen which are probably unobtainable now. looks like the "standard B case" type head from the US maker Nortronics might fit in the holder OK .......

Yup Tom, All tubers - maybe 10 of them. Supposed to go from 0 to 500 VDC. Originally wouldn't go below 260V - needed 200 for a test project. Now it seems to work between 150 to 300 VDC or so, so I'll .......

Most IC multiplex decoders have it all over their tubed counterparts - from a noise, distortion and especially separation perspective - plus there is only one calibration adjustment to make. HOWEVER, .......
