Yes, the Apogee setup you listened to did suffer "due to the suboptimal set up, and pre-amp" My Duetta Sigs are setup in a large room (outstanding stereo image!).....Tube DAC/Tube preamp/Tube Monobloc .......

No....the other poster asked me about my MiniGrand subwoofers (which I had said I sold). My "Stage-etta" setup is better than the Stage with their cone subwoofers......and not better than my Duetta. T .......

I've had my Duetta Sigs for years (Krell Ksa-250, BAT VK-500, or Rogue tube monoblocks)....they have sounded outstanding with each of these amps. I also own Apogee Stage, and the Duetta is better in e .......

My opinion of them matches yours.....hard on the ears. I listened to a pair at a Detroit area hifi shop when they first came out. One of the worst sounding hi-end speaker systems I had ever listened t .......

I do the same thing......I convert to 320kb mp3's. I used dbpoweramp...very fast, and uses all four cores of my Quad core computer during the conversions. .......

One of ADS best from the past. 2030 and 1530 were very good (but huge)....1290 and 1590 were much more room friendly (WAF and all that stuff)......while still great sounding speaker systems. Parts may .......

I have a HP media PC with digital out/in's, and it sounds great running into my Monarchy M-24 DAC. Windows 7/Foobar/WASAPI.......really, the best it's ever sounded.....don't even use the cd transport .......

Ok, thats different. I don't have Maggies, but I do run Apogees so I'm pretty much in the same bass boat as Maggie owners. I run 300 watts on my bass panels, and 120 watts on my MR/TW ribbons in a fai .......

Dipoles don't slam. Stick with box speakers, or a hybrid type like VMPS. Latter, when you get over the slam thing.......revisit your dipole thoughts again. Dave .......

My Forte 1's have "Crites" crossover upgrade, but are stock other than that. My main speakers are Apogee Duetta Signatures, and have been for many years. I use tubes with the Klipsch, and a mix of tub .......

The Duetta Signatures aren't all that hard to drive.....the Duetta and Duetta-2 require more power than the Signatures. I used a Krell Ksa-250 for years to drive my Duetta Signatures, but have been us .......

You could try to mate the 26" Apogee Centaur Minor ribbon (the same ribbon used in the Apogee stage). The ribbon is built into a removable frame, so it's easy to remove from the Centaur Minor (or Stag .......

Of the three, the Duetta Signature can do the job for you. The ML's can't play at high SPL's, or dig deep enough. (a pair of subs would help if you can get them to blend) The Apogee Stage can play lou .......

Not a very good example really......the Caliper and Duetta became the Signature series (these cost a lot more). My Duetta Signatures were around $4500 in 1993 if I recall correctly. Duetta Duetta-2 D .......

RPTV's can be pulled out of focus by the strong magnets in speakers. It happened with my old RPTV that I still have in the living room, and I could not refocus it until I moved the speakers farther aw .......

You don't need 30 ft of USB cable. USB-digital converter is very cheap to buy....$50 or so. (or expensive for some of them). A 30 feet digital cable can be bought fairly cheap if you shop around...$20 .......

The VMPS are a good suggestion in your small room....you can place them very close to the wall if need be, and still get very good sound. I've owned VMPS speakers and subs for years, and have listened .......

I use the EH KT88's in my Rogue Audio mono amps driving Apogee Duetta Signatures, which are a lot like the Maggies for an amp to drive....good bass, clean extended sound, very nice tubes for the money .......

As it states in the Krell manual...the Ksa-250 should have a dedicated 20A power source. Also, the Krell is quite old, and should have had a rebuild by now, if yours has not......$700-$800 if I recall .......

The Apogee buzz is caused by foam degradation in the Apogee bass panel....the foam damps the bass panel, and you have no bass panel. Still, you may have woofer problems of some sort. I would pull the .......

Well, I don't own BAT. I have an Audioprism Mantissa preamp, and a Monarchy M-24 DAC/preamp. I do own both of those tubes...the 7308's for a couple of years, and the EH-6922 for only a couple of month .......

Download puppy linux ISO file and burn the image to a cd. Set your broken computer to boot from cd drive, in the "BIOS" settings. Put Puppy cd in the drive and re-boot....you will be running linux fro .......

I've found that most sound problems can be traced to "Pulseaudio"...you need to set it up first. To bad the latest Ubuntu (and probably other distros)...don't seem to offer a way to do that?...they go .......

It's not a frame adjustment...more like a cover adjustment. The Apogee cover which mounts over the frame, sits on two pins at the top of the frame. It's also held in place, at places on the frame face .......

There is no tune-up that can be done, make sure to play lots of bass through them. Sometimes the cover can shift in transport and can cause some amount of bass noise, this is an easy fix. You should .......

I suspect the amp makes it's 250 watts at 4 ohms (the reason for limited specs), while the Krell makes 500 watts at 4 ohms (the reason for the 2KVA transformer). I had a small Krell (Kav-500) with 1 k .......

Are you using a hipass filter?....if not...your really not helping the panels out at all, just adding bass. I'd cross the little MMG's over at around 80hz "or so". I use 80hz crossover with my small A .......

Soundlabs won't play loud at all, fairly loud is about as good as it gets....any big Apogee wipes the floor with them in SPL's...Apogee Fullrange, and Scintilla, wipes the floor with them in any area .......

That speaker could do 20hz easy...without the subwoofers. It has the subwoofers for a reason. Dipole bass, no matter how low...is not an equal to big cones... in the way they move air. Diva, Scintilla .......

Playing with the volume control does not adjust bass content...it adjusts volume level only....round and round you'll go! Start with test tones and a SPL meter at the very least, you need to get an id .......

The Carver and the Analysis both look a lot like Apogees...however, the Carvers are a hybrid design (cone woofers) and the Analysis is not. I have read good reviews of the Analysis line as a whole...y .......

I used to own a pair of Centaur Minors, they need to be well away from the wall behind them...3-5ft sounds best IMO. Bass is limited (6.5" mid-woofer) so don't expect much more than a good bookshelf c .......

I have Rogue 120 Magnums driving 4 ohm Apogee Duetta Signatures...they do a fine job!...I do however use a pair a passive subs in my system. I drive the Apogees down to 50hz with the Rogues and drive .......

Very nice speakers!...the more power, the better. They are bi-poles so setup is critical to get the timing right between the direct and reflected sound...well away from the wall behind and beside work .......

If you can get the sock off of Maggies you can rebuild Apogees. The Apogee covers come off with ease for a new paint job...once the cover is off everything is exposed and fairly easy to get at. Check .......

Aurasound speakers sell cheap on Ebay...they use the Linaeum in both versions...mono-pole and di-pole, depending on which model you need. Most of their towers used the di-pole while the bookshelf used .......

The Rogue amps are more SS sounding than the Conrad Johnson... I chose the Rogues for my system for just that reason. In another system I may have gone with the more "Classic" tube sound of the CJ's.. .......

Your room will work very well. Because of the Duetta Sig's extended bass they don't work well in smaller rooms unless you can pull them out well away from the corners...of course you won't have that p .......

For around $800 or less you could jump to the Ksa-250...I use one to drive my Duetta Signatures. Gain: an extra 200 watts a side and better mid-range quality. Downside: Much more heat/needs 20A circut .......

Soundstage is a product of speaker placement and good acoustic property with-in your room. Another factor could also be speaker design (type). The rest of the components have very little to do with it .......

He also nailed the difference between the Placette and the Bent to a " T "...except the Bent does not suffer from the low volume channel tracking problem at all. I had both in my system, he nailed it .......

Try no toe-in at all, also place some shims under the front feet for a tilt-back untill sounds change as you desire. Your room looks pretty good on paper but then again you already said that your not .......

Yep, I should have also mentioned that I listened to the Placette in my system...an outstanding unit. I chose the Bent for other reasons than sound quality as I thought they both were first rate but d .......

One of the reasons many people use subs is because often the best speaker position for image/soundstage with-in the room is not the best position for bass quality. Some trade-off may be required unles .......

I had a Bent Audio TVC in my system for a good while with a Sony XA-777es and Krell Ksa-250 amp. The Sony at 2v output could not drive the big Krell to full power but did well enough with the 92db spe .......

If you should run across an Audioprism Mantissa Tubed pre at around $1,000 or less for the basic line-stage...you should be very happy with the results. I am using one with my Krell and does not destr .......

I agree on the Mantissa, I am using one with my Krell Ksa-250 and Apogee Duetta Signatures. Your discription of it's sound is on the money and why I chose this pre to mate with my Krell. I found mine .......

So much love for Krell this week? I agree with your review as I've head that amp many times. I own a Ksa-250 for a long while...I also own a Krell Kav-500. The Kav's are what started all the Krell bas .......

They will drive the big Mirage M1's, I heard um years ago. Not the best amps but plenty of power for your much smaller M5's. If you can get them for a cheap price you could be happy for a while...at l .......

Funny thing about amps Abe..Nothing to do with yours but worth a mention for other people. The Krell Ksa-150 and Krell Ksa-250 could also (at their time) be had as the Mda-300 and Mda-500 mono-blocks. .......

If you check my old posts you will read that I did own (Bent) and also tried Placette. Great product each! My Krell Ksa-250 needs more than standard 2V cdp output....more like 3V for proper bass respo .......

Try a very good tubed pre-amp with your Krell, I think you will be even more impressed. The Krells are easy to stear in any direction. I chose an Audioprism Mantissa with mine because it had most trai .......
