Emaidel's comments on that link do not conform at all to my experience with the Stanton 8005A Gyropoise and Unipoise tonearm. I have had one from new since 1978 and it has worked flawlessly and sounds .......

I have tried virtually all of the polishing compounds. The best I have yet found is Simichrome. It has made the platters on my Thorens TD-145, Stanton 8005A, Dual 1229, 1229Q and 1219 gleam (I know .......

I second the MAC 1700 recommendation. I have one and the tuner section - tubes - sounds excellent, as does the pre-amp and amp sections, both solid state. I believe McIntosh made the 1700 from 1967 - .......

Agreed - check the positioning of the speakers in the listening area, how clean and solid the speaker wire connections are, the tightness of the screws securing the drivers, and how well you've secure .......

Nothing in a working condition will cost between $100 - $150. The closest you will come to that will be a MAC 1700 in the $250-$350 range, which will then need about $200-$300 in tubes (tuner section) .......

That's relatively easy to answer. I would suggest getting a well-known solid state tuner - such as a Kenwood, Pioneer, Onkyo, Technics, etc. - that you will not have to worry about tubes and their car .......
