When things go wrong with my tables I've got enough skill to usually handle the very simple stuff but anything more and I'm useless. Which is why I spend extra in the beginning to get a well restored .......

Lots of great idlers out there that will get you pretty far without having to search much, or spend the kind of money that a 301 costs. Dual, Miracord, Lenco/Bogen, and others are worthy contenders. : .......

The plinth was built by the seller so I'll have to ask him how many boards were used. The height of the layers is about 3.75". This is the most quiet table I own, idler or otherwise. That really surpr .......

I've always wanted a pair but "settled" for a pair of Jim Rogers' JR 149's. A lot less money for a speaker that many, who have heard both it and the LS3's claim are fairly close in sound to each other .......

The 480 was(and is, assuming proper restoration) a very good deck. Frankly, even the so called "Bottom Of The Line" Nak decks were a lot better then much of the same category decks from other makers. .......

I "think" I'm finished for now buying decks. The 1000 is a beautiful deck, but much more difficult to maintain then most of the other Nak decks. For me it would not be worth it. I'd be more likely to .......

MC225 to the collection from a local collector. Restored a few years ago by Yves Beauvais. Came with original Sylvania 7591's which sound wonderful, but I've got a quad of Tung Sol's coming anyway. .......

I have a 240 for a second system, and while I adore it, there is a definite difference in it's sound vs. the 30's that I chalk up to SS vs. tube rectification. It's the latter which accounts for the i .......

Yes unfortunately AC has not been as top notch as I would've liked. I think one has to buy from them without assuming too much, and be very clear as to what their expectations are. I've had good luck .......

I know but it sounds great even at the lowest levels. Love 1st generation solid state Mac's. I have a MC2120 that I can use with them as well. Not a fan of lower power amps even with efficient speaker .......

The table in the background is an updated AR XA, a favorite. The tube preamp is a Decware CSP, but I no longer have it. For phono pre's, I use a GE MF-1, and Shure M65, both rebuilt by a friend. L .......

The auto function is irregular on the 126, depending on the record. It probably requires more time then I'm willing to put into it because I have other auto tables so it's not a big deal and doesn't .......

Thanks! The "lower power" amp is 130 watts at 4 ohms, and produces excellent sound as well. So for my smallish room I think that's plenty of power, even for the 3a's. I think I'm getting a little less .......

I actually bought it already restored by a local guy that I know, a fellow audio freak. So didn't even need it shipped. He did a real nice job, replacing all electrolytics with Nichicon MUSE caps. And .......

The balance problems that plagued your 38 and that older preamps like the 24 are known for can normally be completely addressed with an electrical restoration. My 24 has no balance problems whatsoever .......

They're not.The 1's, 2's and early 3's had oil filled caps. Other then possible leakage, they normally don't drift much and are good forever. Plus, they sound great. .......

He certainly should try it, but a proper amp is required. I stack a pair of AR 3's on top of a pair of AR 3a's, and use a Crown XLS1000 pro amp to drive them all. It can safely handle loads of 2 ohms, .......

Yes they are, but the Mac 4100 does a great job driving them. I'm in a fairly small space, and if I get over 10 watts on the power meter, which is about 10 o'clock on the gain, that is LOUD. So my lis .......

The 5's sound great when I do get them in the system. According to my friend, the 2105(which does not come with a case) has probably only had a few resistors swapped out. Otherwise pretty much bone s .......

Interesting. Mine have the 448 trannies. I rarely see restored pairs of W-5's for sale, and when I do they're normally in the $850-1000 range. I do see singles for sale quite a bit, but always in need .......

Shouldn't be a problem. I use one with my Garrard Lab 80, and contrary to popular belief, the "wood" arm is of medium mass, not unlike the 1019. Certainly worth at least trying. .......

On AK, it was discovered that if you align the stylus tip so that it's centered between the indents of the cartridge carrier, it will do the trick. It will match the alignment if you were using a 2 po .......

Just a side note. Got the Crown amp and am using it currently with my restored KLH 5's, a speaker not unlike the AR 3A. It delivers a very warm, tonally inviting big sound with a solid punch. Very smo .......

Yep been to Classic Speaker Pages and studied it all.That's where I got the idea to pick up the Crown XLS1000 for less than a couple of Franklin's. It's well liked for driving various hard to drive AR .......

I agree. This one sounds so good that I plugged into my Fisher 400 so I could compare it to the 400's tuner. Both provide fantastic reception, but the 400's sound was a bit richer and fuller. Probably .......

So I found out that disconnecting the internal impedance wire may give you a small upgrade in sonics(very small in my case) but it also eliminates the speaker off/on switch because the switch derives .......

Yes you can drop in KT77's. I did, and they sound as good as they do in my 7's. Maybe if I'm going to use them this much I should consider picking up another quad as spares. Great tubes. .......

This amp really responds to tube rolling as well. Threw some Tele 12AX7's into it and it opened up big time. Have some Mullard's in the phono stage and those have added warmth and bottom. Love this am .......

As others have said it probably needs less help than you think. A bit of lubing, cleaning off old grease and adding some new grease, perhaps a bit of Deoxit on the sled contacts. But yeah, plug it in .......

Not true on either account. The Lab 80 has a dedicated following, as it should being a wonderful table. Yes it will need some work as most really old pieces do but once cleaned up it's built like a ta .......
