I'm guessing the low voltage power supply going to the preamp is the culprit probably the power Transistors (with the little heat sinks attached.) Maybe cracked solder joints. Anyway, too fiddly for m .......

Nothing from the preamp or the amp sections when separated and connected to other components that I know work. I doubt if it has been recapped everything looks original inside. .......

Yes it is. The good news is, that some diligent TLC on the magnet groove and some cleanup on the copper coil brought the mid-range back to life very nicely. Now the other crossover is giving me fits. .......

The impedance measures 6.5 ohms on the weak one and 6.0 ohms on the stronger one... I've read that the nominal impedance for these drivers is 16 ohms so this seems a little low? Maybe i will re measur .......

Yes those other speakers are b & w DM 16s. That has been a interesting project. they were destined for the dump, both tweeters were toast. I pulled both crossovers one had a bad capacitor and resistor .......

I would say that I can hear the purring when I am 4 feet away without the music playing. with the music playing, it quickly disappears as my listening spot is about 8 ft from the turntable...just fyi. .......

These are obscure infinity speakers. I replaced the front Peerless tweeters, did a cosmetic do over, and added spikes (made of plum bobs). Three tweeters per speaker. They sound good. .......

I do love the tweeters on the jbl's. The overall speaker is too bright for me and of course, lacks any really low bass. The 15" cv woofers (mids and tweeter turned off) take care of that to a degree, .......

Flipped the unit over and found a 3amp, 250 volt fuse holder prominently dispalyed with a blown 1amp 250 volt fuse in it. Replaced it with the correct value and , viola! We have light! Merry Christmas .......

The swap out kit for a new amp, back plate, etc, which uses a digital trnsformer and apparently modernizes the model to a silver, is $400. I am not sure of the value here as I was never hugely impress .......

I don't think it is a question of losing the bass response as much as overwhelming it with the mids and upper frequency response is that the Jico brings. I have the 97 with and without the SAS as well .......

Thanks for the info, one less project to think about! The Marantz is a 2325 receiver, very good all around performer. The tuner is a sansui 717 also quite nice although I don't use it much anymore... .......

The degree of hum has to do with the type of equipment the MS 22B is hooked up to. For example, with my Yamaha C 65 preamp, the hum was greatly reduced. However, through my Marantz receiver or my Yama .......

The input and output rca jacks have the ground leads from L and R joined. Desoldered and Separated the grounds by rotating the upper tabs and resoldering. a pretty annoying hum disappeared complete .......

Once I corrected the polarity issue with the tweeter replacement, they sounded fine. Obviously they have no low bass, but for TV vocals they are fine. The sony has terrible audio from its own speakers .......

My Sony Bravia has a line out for audio, so this makes a nice home for my 3wpch magnavox el84 amp and the utah 2a's. Vocals are very nice which is always helpful with TV. Wife is happy as the prior .......

The consensus here and from others was that the surrounds would be deteriorated. However, the wax paper wrap and excellent packing may have prevented oxidation or whatever chemically degrades foam. .......

I just redoped my new to me model 5's. I did the woofer surrounds twice, the midrange surrounds and woofer dustcaps once. Dont touch the midrange dustcaps. I Didnt notice much difference after one coa .......

I would respectfully suggest that scrubbing the grooves of a vinyl album with debris of any type cant be a good thing...i suppose a paint filter would remove them to a point, but these are tiny groove .......

I doubt that they identical woofers in terms of sensitivity, but I rechecked with my meter and the replacements are the same impedance as the stock (4 ohm) and of course, size, 10 inch. I put the feet .......

I have a denon dl160 which is high output but I prefer it at 1000 ohm on the mc setting, and a variety of MM carts. The c 65 does well with the Denon although the volume needs to be way up to make it .......

I was comparing the specs between the yamaha c65 and the c85 preamps. The main difference seems to be in the input sensitivity, which is significantly lower in the c85. The c65 is .1mv and 1.5 mv for .......

I also have the Yakin tube phono stage. I use it with a Shure mx 97 cart and jico sas stylus on a thorens td 150 table. I can listen all night, very smooth and enjoyable. Huge bang for the buck, huge. .......

I would not say the film cap has made a huge difference in the high end, (they certainly don't sound like my Heil tweeters) and remember, this is with brilliance at maximum. The more noticeable effect .......

Regarding the capacitors, I was told they were new generic radio shack replacements when I bought the speakers 5 years ago, but I have never looked inside to verify that, prolly time I did... The 27TD .......

I like the flexibility of banana plugs as I tend to switch equipment around. This is working well, sounds a bit better than my sansui 7700 integrated amp alone, still using the sansui as a preamp. .......

It sounds lower, less cymbals, more voice. This is a good thing in this system which is midrange starved to my ears, in it's stock form. What does an octave translate into as far as frequency is conce .......

I put the 16 ohm horn into the CV and it sounds fine to me, better than the stock one. I will have to figure out if i can repair the other one or get one on line.. They are pretty common, I see. ::: .......

I just found the crossover data. The old one, a heppner type hf91, crossed at 1500 hz and up, not sure how high, the new one, a Jensen rp109, crosses at 800hz and goes to 12khz Unfortunately, i only h .......

I assume the volume would be different, but there are l pads there for that. Will it cause damage to the crossover? I have a damaged magnet for my CV mid range horn and found a pretty similar sensitiv .......

Well, the phono stage was new so purchase and hookup is simple, just need rca terminated patch cord to connect to a power amplifier via the aux in jack. Buying a used turntable of med to high quality .......

This is the university driver version. As I listen to them more I realize they are just very honest, the dynacos were a tad bit colored and and more bass forward... .......
