I think you're right regarding the mid bass/bass emphasis which is perhaps/probably just a function of the larger gauge wire. In my setup I slightly prefer the 20 gauge Deulund for interconnects. The .......

Doesn't the PBJ have one wire to positive (center) and two to negative (return)? If so it differs from how the Timber is terminated...as per the photo. .......

Yeah, I think I might just give the existing spades and the exposed wire a good cleaning. Then wrap the bare wire with some Teflon tape and cover with shrink wrap. The spades are good quality (XLO?) a .......

I have an original mono pressing which sounds great too. It's just a great recording. I've really enjoyed the remastered stereo cd which has the musicians positioned across the soundstage and not bunc .......

No. In this arrangement...At the preamp end the shield is floating (not connected to ground). So, just solder the red wire to the rca center pin and white wire to rca return...drain unconnected. Note: .......

Both shield(s) are grounded via a grounding conductor which is soldered to the drain wires at the turntable /source end. The other end of the "grounding conductor" is connected to ground at the preamp .......

Looks like all you need to do is ground the shields at the preamp using the drain wire...one end only....usually the "source" end. Right channel cable: red (cable) to red (+) @ tt & white(cable) to gr .......

That wire is to ground the shield. If the turntable has a grounding lug (probably) you could ground the shield there and then tie it all together at the preamp ground. .......

You might try a small (~ 1uf) non-inductive (stacked film) cap from v+ to v-. That's a tweak that Thorsten recommended to prevent oscillating with the lm6172 opamp. .......

My advice (based on years or experience with the M-3) is to stick with the Russian tubes for your AI. I now use the 6N23p Voshkod rocket in phono & line sections. They sound good, admittedly not quite .......

Mogami W3173 is a nice cable designed for long runs (and short runs too). 18awg w/foamed poly insulation. I've made up a couple of sets using 3173...sounds good to me. YMMV. .......

My guess is that since the phase is reversed, signal/positive (+) for 0 phase is return/negative (-) for 180 phase and visa versa. So if using a shielded twisted pair like the 2549 > for 0 phase (both .......

All things equal, I would say the most noticible "difference" is with bass slam/impact. Full range box speakers can have more of that. On the other hand, Maggie's have very accurate bass which is real .......

I've used the regular (non-carbon) rhodium/copper IEC connectors. They are ok but no better than the regular Marinco plugs...IMO. I haven't used the Supra connectors so I can't comment except to sugge .......

I can recommend this cable. Very nice speaker cable and it won't break the bank. It's available bulk if you want to DIY...simple. The 3.4S (shielded) is excelent also. IMO it competes with much higher .......

I do not have this "problem" with my 3A. In phono the volume is usually set around 12 o'clock. But my unit does not have the stepped attenuators (I had AI replace with Noble pots). Maybe they've lower .......

You shouldn't have any problem soldering the new KLEI plugs. I find them easier than the older bullet plugs. I also find that plugging the plug into an rca jack (clamped in a vise or some such) works .......

There is a "bushing" in the front panel that the long shaft rides in (hard to say if the bushing is part of the shaft assembly). If the shaft is frozen in that bushing you might be able to free it by .......

I've tested them on my Hickock TV3b/u using the settings for a 6922. They test very strong. In fact that was what first got my attention. The mutual-conductance is waaaay higher than any 6922 (or 6h23 .......

I had the same problem and made 8 longer spikes out of a threaded brass rod (cut to length). Grind/file one end to a point (easily done). Now the tip of the spikes rest on the concrete foundation belo .......

Your amp apparently has a "variable" input impedance selector and can be set for 100k. At that setting, a 10k audio taper will work well. I've been happy with my DIY "shunt-mode" variable attenuator/p .......

the new drive isn't recognized by Windows. So...I,ve been searching for answers and it looks like the spare SATA ports are disabled (for some reason?). In order to "enable" them you have to go into BI .......

Yeah at that diameter your choices are limited. I've used the VAL rca plugs on several sets of ic's and they are nice enough. However IMO (for what it's worth) you should spend the extra $25 or so and .......

Teflon tape wrapped around the end of the IEC female connector a few times will tighten things up on that end. I've also pried the male end blades apart (slightly) to increase the friction on that end .......

There is a small slot/channel in the housing of the front part of the connector (you can see it in your picture). Make sure you line this groove up with it's male counterpart on the other half of the .......

The 960 is an outboard DAC of course and would meet your original parameters ("best, old, red-book). It's also a bit pricey and hard to find. The MF-M1 is nice also. .......

Maybe something like this. Hard to find I would imagine. The Philips DAC960 and it's offspring were excellent...especially with a few appropriate mods. .......
