An FM tuner is a good thing but only if you have a decent station to listen to. I flick on two switches and I have music (tuner and amp). Computer streaming stations takes a lot longer to get up and r .......

They are getting a lot of power out of two 6550s. They must be driving them pretty hard. My Prima Luna makes less than half that power with the same tube compliments. A note of tubes: Places like Upsc .......

They were designed at a time when speakers were placed on the floor and against the wall thus reinforcing the bass. Located in the normal standard for today away from the wall, they are a bit lean in .......

OK I plugged a pair of new Tung-Sol Russian tubes (6NS7GTB) into my buffer. Very nice. It gives just a taste of "tube" sound. Not as good as all tube mono-blocks but pretty reasonable. I'll be good fo .......

The Heresy is a very flat sounding loudspeaker, surprisingly so. It doesn't tolerate cheap equipment though so if you think a vintage 70s receiver is going to sound as sweet as a good tube amp, it ain .......

For speakers, I think I would strip the drivers out of a pair of Klipsch loudspeakers and install those into the console. That would need some concept of enclosure design, do you have that knowledge? .......

Good points all. Although contacting your dealer sounds like a reasonable approach, the Magnepan dealer list is pretty small and for some it's a great distance to a dealer and that limits the effectiv .......

For Magnepans to work properly, you will need to pull them 5 or 6 feet into the room. If you can do that, you'll be fine with any Magnepan. .......

The best way is to play with one speaker pair at a time and maximize it's performance using different cabling and positions. AB sounds like it's a good idea but you really need time to sort things out .......

Modest tube amps don't work very well with Maggies, I'm sorry to say. Same thing for modest solid state amps. What you really want is a big brute of an amp even if you are playing at lower levels. A b .......

In my experience, a small amount of frequency correction can work pretty good. However if you get too heavy handed you will find your system limits. If you loudspeaker cuts off at say 35Hz, getting it .......

I had no trouble powering my MMGs with a pair of sicpacs, they are about 50 wpc. I did have trouble with the frequency response. For some reason, right at the crossover point, my amps just didn't like .......

As posted earlier, the best way to protect the drivers is to go easy on the volume knob. Fuses are nice but they are no guarantee your drivers will be saved. I have not blown a fuse since I was a youn .......

The Creek amp is a solid performer and a good match for Maggies. They have huge power supplies and can play well with very low impedances. Rated at 40 watts into 8ohms it probably has enough head room .......

They are designed to be used in normal sized rooms. You cannot fill a concert hall with low efficiency speakers even with big amps, you flat run out of power and loudspeaker. I'm not saying you can't .......

I had a problem with MMGs and tube amps. My amp didn't like the crossover point and created a sharp glare at one frequency. A change to solid state cured the issue. Then a change to an electrostatic s .......

I think the first issue is speaker placement, there is a sweet spot for bass with the speakers about 6 feet into the room, perhaps a little more but I think it's where the rear wave can support the fr .......

I have a lot of hours listening to both the MMG and the 1.6. The 1.6 is a much better system, no contest. I would take the 1.6 without a sub, than any MMG/sub combo and I run my MMGs with a Parasound .......

Tyu has it right. The ML ESLs work better in a small room and take less power. However they are not as warm sounding as the Maggies and the smaller room will make the ML seem a bit bright, even with t .......

I'll offer a few new ideas. Pull the speakers out 6 or 7 feet from the front wall. Switch the tweeter position and kill some of the toe-in. Pulling the speakers out will help bring out some warmness a .......

I think I'm the master of small room set-ups. The MMGs will work but you'll need a sub and you will want to pull the MMGs as far into the room as you can. 5 feet is not too much. .......

I'm with JBen on this one. I like the Parasound 2100 preamp, good value, good sound. I also agree you are cutting the amp short with a Parasound 2250. The A21 is WAY better than most and worth the ext .......

I have Electromotion ESLs in one system and a pair of MMGs in another. The MLs have good extension and better detail than the Maggies. I run my ESLs with all tube equipment so they are not thin soundi .......

Is it shutting down from thermal overload? Are the amps on stands? A 250 watt (@ 8ohm) is a big amp but not so big that a hard driven pair of Maggies couldn't heat it up. .......

At your level of equipment, no you'll have a hard time if you put lessor electronics on your rig. You might squeeze a little more out of another pre-amp. I love my SLP-98 F1 but my Audio Research SP-9 .......

I had a pair of Six-Pacs on my MMGs but the amp didn't like the impedance rise at the crossover point so I switched amps. I'm hope I can use the tube amps on my future 3.7s. .......

Lots of power but I could not find any specs for S/N ratio or frequency response. These are important specs for a cheap super high power amp. In the end though, high-fi is a demanding mistress and low .......
