i'm using a Onyko preamp and really like it. Kind of a BOTL one I had to pull my McIntosh for some service. I've just started looking at Onkyo gear and they have made some impressive power and pre amp .......

Estat, I typically get my schematics from hifiengine but I don't think they are allowing new logins. I just google 'xxxx schematic' and hope to get something. I've had to buy them if I can't find them .......

i'm kind of late to the party but i think hifi engine has the schematic. opamp is a quad, RC4136. 16v rails so that may limit op amp choices. you might be able to change the 33v zener to fit your opam .......

I was using updated Dynaco Mark III monos for a long time. these are 60w power amps. My friends thought it sounded fine. I've moved to big SS but don't think I gained much. .......

not sure if agree with bare. i think the dynaco stuff were built at a price so everyone could afford and get one. And Dynaco could make a profit. I've only worked on a pat4 and a pat5 so not a lot of .......

i had the SP-4 from a customer. I had a difficult time getting the power supply working until i replaced all the caps (even when they tested fine). I suggested to put in the hafler boards but he didn' .......

i've never heard of the modules failing but i guess it is possible. if it was mine, i'd gut the pre and put in a hafler dh-101 in side. i had line stage and phono boards made a few years ago. my guess .......

the marantz 7 is probably the best of the bunch. it might take some work. some like the dyna pat-4. since these are kits, YMMV. I had found a few open caps and really didn't spend much time listening .......

The ARC SP-4 is garabage. you will need to replace every electrolytic and it will still not be good sounding. it will work but noisy even with MF resistors. and be careful not to lift any solder pads. .......

updated Dynaco Mark IIIs with MG1. A bit under powered but those mids were fantastic. Kenwood L-07m mono blocks with 1.6QR No need to spend more $$ or keep looking .......

I've only fixed one 2215B but I didn't it was too bad. I've fixed a lot of gear and have the tools. My guess you don't have much. I'd start by bringing it up on a DBT and start comparing voltages with .......

I did find some MKP10s in my stash but the lead width is huge (32?mm). I think they worked fine in my tube gear but seem too big for the Hafler. Seems like a good cap. .......

The big yellow films are c11 and c20. i could replace them with 4.7uF WIMA MKS2. These were added in the early 80s. sorry for the late response. the asylum is blocked at work. .......

I've had great success with Lafayette gear. I have an LT-100A tuner I'd let go but doesn't seem to match your amp. I like it but it just sits on the shelf. Enjoy your amp. .......

My guess the Yamaha amp will sound the best. I have a friend with AR3s and they are underpowered with his Dynaco ST70. I didn't think it sounded very nice. Dull, muddy. If you do want to get into tube .......

I've found 70s SS receivers to be more complex with many more switches that get dirty and fail. I recently fixed a bad right channel on a SX-838 by cleaning the switches. I think this unit had sliders .......

The brown transformer is the (rusty) power transformer. I'd unplug the unit, loosen the mounting screws and slip grommets to isolate the mount from the chassis. Probably as the power transformer warms .......

I'm glad to hear you got your SAE working. I had 4 caps puke their guts in my SAE I102. I just replaced them with what I had in my junk box. If you do notice some brown goo around the bass of the caps .......

I'm not Steve but I've replaced the tweeter wire in my MG-1s without a jig. I followed the original lines and used a pencil to loop the wire at the ends. I did this a few years ago so it is a bit vagu .......

When I got my MG-1's, I had to re-wire the tweeter wires. I used copper equivalent as per the how-to section. I also redid the crossovers, stands and grill cloth. I'd suggest you look at Gunn'ing them .......

Nuff posted good recommendations. My only add is to check the output caps. I had to replace the 'rootbeer barrel' looking caps on the outputs. they leaked and passed DC on the outputs. Nice tuners. :: .......

For cheap, I really like the little Hafler 101. With a few mods from Audio Amateur really improves a good pre into a great pre. Some of my tube pre amps my sound better but not at the same price. ::: .......

I feel MG1's are worth repairing. I would fix the wires, update the crossovers to MG1-improved, add better stands/bracing. I'd also look at improving how the steel frames are mounted to the MDF. Or Gu .......

Adam, The MGII's are pretty old. Make sure the tweeter wires are still intact. They can be repaired (I've repaired my MG1's) but it is some work. Be sure to listen to them to make sure the tweeters ar .......

My guess your amp is running out of gas. I'm using my Mark IIIs with MG-1's. I've updated the cross overs to IMP specs and replaced the tweeter wires from aluminum to copper. My Mark III's have the up .......

I had a similar problem with the Hafler. The input electrolytic was bad. I replaced it with a nice PP cap and it works fine. Don't forget to check the speaker fuses since they are part of the feedback .......

I used LEDs on my FM5. I still haven't bothered fixing the dial lamps but now I know when it is turned and in stereo. This seemed pretty quick and simple fix (plus I had all the parts in my spare part .......

I'm using Cardas binding posts on my Mark IIIs. I'm currently using the 8 ohm tap. I removed the old screw terminals and the binding posts fits the slot without any mods. You will need a *big* solderi .......

If it was me, I'd remove the octal socket from the rear. Get a counter top sample from your favorite home improvement store and cover the hole. Drill holes in the counter top sample for bias pots and .......

I just picked up a CAL Icon (sn 2013097) with remote. However, it doesn't read CDs consistently. It has better luck with pre-recorded but not many CD-Rs. It has no problem reading TOC with any CD and .......

I'm using the top-mount board for my Mark IIIs. Easy install. There is a hole in the PCB to allow a screw driver through to adjust the bias. I haven't seen the below mount boards but Joe said the bott .......

I just got a Lafayette KT-600 preamp. Completely stock from the original owner. Not a scratch. It even came with a McIntosh amplifier clinic report from 8-14-65. The graph shows the pre-amp has 0.1% d .......

I have a Fisher 90-R and might have the same hookups. Looking at the 6 terminals, 1-3 for am, 4-6 for fm: 2-3 link(am) 5-6 to 300 ohm twin lead (or your favorite dipole) for fm 5-6 roof-type fm antenn .......

I've listened to these through 60w amps (AtmaSpere M60s and Dynaco Mark IIIs) and thought they were wonderful. I'd have a hard time passing on these if I found them. Good luck! rick .......
