Exactly. That's why, when I wrote my review of the Spatial's, I ended up borrowing a much more powerful, solid-state amp in addition to the little SET That was my only amp at the time. .......

And the 94 dB sensitive Spatial M3 Turbo S which has a bit of a roller coaster impedance curve will play loudly with a SET amp but not (as I learned) at its best. .......

One thing I've learned (and I'm not suggesting that you were claiming otherwise) is that a speaker's efficiency in dB's doesn't tell you the entire story concerning how well it'll be driven by a SET a .......

I have the Spatial M4's and they are quite remarkable. They use a 12" coax on top and Clayton's done a great job with them. But I'd love to hear the M3's with the 15" coax! If anyone's at all interes .......

We're pretty sure speaker sensitivity isn't the culprit here because the Kit 1 is driving the De Capo's just fine with the phono side of things -- Bottlehead Seduction, specifically. .......

As luck would have it, I already did my research on this. The DAC outputs 2.2 V. With my cartridge, the phono stage should be putting out about 550 mV. .......

You know, it will be very interesting to see about that. As far as I can tell, the driver material is not the only or perhaps even primary consideration here. The speakers are rated at 92 dB efficienc .......

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I think a lot of how effective omni and pseudo-omni designs are in their imaging has to do with room acoustics. I think my listening room was too live for such designs to .......

Oh, and one other question: how's the low end for you? They're spec'ed to "only" go down to 55 Hz at +/- 2db, but the reviews say that the bass is "tight" and "tuneful." What's your experience so far? .......

Spoke to Matt at Bel Canto today. He says that what's called for is a preamp with an impedance output of between 50 and 100 ohms. At least I have a ballpark figure to look at, now. .......

Doc, It's working! It turns out that there were two problems. As I mentioned, I had soldered the two resistors in question to terminals 26 and 36, rather than 27 and 37. These were quite easy to snip .......

Okay, Doc... Well, that's part of it. I misread the instructions and somehow soldered A6 to 26 (not 27) ad B6 to 36 (not 37). Shouldn't be that difficult, physically, to desolder and resolder those jo .......

Thanks, Doc, will do. One thing I discovered (duh!!) was that I didn't have the tubed fully seated in the sockets... now they're all the way in! But now none of my LED's are glowing. But I'll go back .......

As for solder, I noticed when I went to Fry's that they were selling solder that does not contain lead. Is this a suitable for such a project? I'm a little concerned about working with lead-based sold .......
