Very oris swing, did some searching and even on their website no mention of drivers but another search found an owner with dx4. With space for such speakers I would like something similar. ::: TOPIC:: .......

there are two reasons I want to try the lowthers, firstly the BMS 4592 mid drivers are 118db and no matter what bass drivers I use I will probably need to bi-amp to get a balance. The second reason is .......

I can also buy back the BMS 4592mid drivers that IMO beat the those old Jbl drivers. But the point is not to go back to where I've been before but use the DX45 in the best way possible. Martin Seddon .......

That's the thing, throat is 2" flanged but I was wondering if I can cut it at 4" and put a square flange to make a box for the lowther, or is the flare then incorrect for a cone driver. As for bass I .......

The BMS 4592ND mid driver I use has a 3.5" diaphragm and is no " average" compression driver. What is all this eq you keep going on about. I never said it was easy, but careful selection of horn and d .......

by having the crossover lower less midrange came from the bass driver, also a good thing, .......

So if they don't sound good at a watt or two they are over powered for the said application. The amp used for the bass was fine and probably had a high damping factor, something advantageous for large .......

All speakers are a compromise one way or another, most of the diyers I know are building/using 5 way horn systems. I did try 4 ways but settled on 3 way and not all horn. The Raal's are without doubt .......

I admit I like Tannoys, not sure how long I could live with them or any other manufactured speaker. No doubt there must be some but not within budget. Avantgarde's for one have an initial wow that soo .......

I would defy anyone to detect a time alignment error when 340.29mm is just one millisecond and with my drivers just one third of that out of alignment equates to a time difference of one third of a mi .......

I am sure all you guys have more technical ability than me but I have to go with my ears. I don't use 90deg horns I have 200Hz round tractrix horns from auto-tech in Poland with BMS 4592 ND mid driver .......

Hi all, I've noticed that many two way American speakers cross the woofers far too high ( in my opinion ) I visited someone with JBL speakers with 15" woofers, compression driven horn for midrange and .......

that cab looks more like a piece of furniture than a decent driver enclosure. I would suggest bracing the woofer frame by putting some pressure on the magnet, worked wonders with my eminence alpha 15' .......

The idea is to use a radial horn to keep the speaker box height as near to its present height. I could incorporate the audax into the box but that would increase the height by 5" and as there is a hor .......

I run emission labs xls in my 300B and the difference was amazing. I have just bought an amp with 6P6C russian valves allegedly 5w, so when it arrives I will try that and compare with my Bottlehead pa .......

I don't know autographs but they certainly were not GRF. Having said that they didn't have a midhorn just 15" dual concentrics. They were not that smooth in the bass away from the corners. ::: TOPIC:: .......

I am no expert on subs but I suspect the reason for down firing a sub is to stop the driver from over excursion by loading the driver. It wouldn't seem to be relevant for a ceiling mounted horn ::: TO .......

I have tried the tube, home made of course, it worked well, but I couldn't say for sure that it was better or worse than my comp driver with the tractrix horn. I fancied the idea of the tube sticking .......

Hi Tom, surely you don't want to run that azura below 270Hz, I run my 200Hz tractrix at 350Hz to get the best sound, but that is with a compression driver. Audax PR170MO fs 117Hz reasonably flat to 10 .......

The DEQX can only be as good as the person operating it, I believe this is the reason why DEQX aren't interested in diyers, some of whom would not be able to get the best from it, possibly me included .......

lance, can't help you with comparisons. Some seem to think they can here differences with all kinds of swaps like cables etc and maybe they can, but other than hearing a definite improvement in the se .......

I also use the DEQX 2.6 PDC in my open baffle and horn system, it takes a bit of getting used to the features available but if you have the time to work through it, you will certainly reap the benefit .......

it covers from 5KHz up but I haven't measured or tried any test tones to know how high yet. Its at a 45 degree angle and the slot is 5 3/4" long but that was just by accident, the overal length is 11" .......

Hi Tom, not much help I know as I haven't heard the DX4, I had PM6A and EX3, the PM6A had rubbing voice coils but sounded very nice despite this and the EX3 were new and after several months of playin .......

I made a karlson tube a while back and still haven't tried it out. I like the idea of the tube poking through the wall of my 200Hz tractrix, a la farber acoustic, but don't think I could bring myself .......

thats great, I will build a cab and try it first with a Kappa LF as Bert says any low qts driver with suitable vas will work. If that sounds reasonable I will buy the BD15's .......

ok so assuming the horns cut off cannot be changed it would more for haing a lower crossover point from a given driver by doubling them up. So instead of using an expensive say BMS 2" driver with a 30 .......

ok thats fair comment, you say the scanspeak is not the driver to use with horns, so can you say what driver would be able to keep up. My experience is with bass reflex and fronted ported single drive .......

Hi Dave, that eminence only goes up to 125Hz, the audax PR170MO has an fs 117Hz so thats a non starter, besides I am trying to create something that could be domestically acceptable, not for me as I h .......

I would agree that imaging is not the best quality of my set up but disagree that OB's don't image well as I have heard OB's that do. But for me imaging is just a sound engineers gimmick that some fin .......

I run open baffles and horns together in an active tri-amped set up. I have recently raised the crossover point from my 6.5" audax driver in ob to 1500Hz where it meets a 400Hz tractrix and there is a .......

just to clarify some points. High sensitivity as in 100db at least, as I would be looking at using 2A3 or 300B amps. range to cover would be 40Hz - 110Hz with a woofer and the two Audax PR170MO driver .......

as my horns are 113db I was thinking 100db at least. I have modelled a box for two audax PR170MO drivers that gives a very flat response at about 103db down to 100Hz and so I am looking for something .......

I have a new project starting that requires a box speaker for the bass up to 1000Hz maybe less lets say 500-1000Hz as there will be a 200Hz tractrix horn above with either a co-axial or mid driver wit .......

pleasant, but these You tube videos give no idea as to the quality of the speakers as they are recorded with a camcorder and then it gets played back through whatever speakers are connected to the pc .......

my BMS drivers work well into the upper range, they are not cheap Eminence drivers at $50. So you are saying the tube is low passed at 1.8KHz, thats ok as I would run them from 5500Hz up to where they .......

well if you must be pedantic then so be it. Most maufacturers quote 20KHz as the top of their frequency range although I doubt I could hear it even if they do make it up there as our ears cannot hear .......
