I would pretty much guarantee that this has a lot of fake/crappy parts in it, starting with the input K170/J74 JFETs. The PCBs don't appear to be very high quality either. .......

My Pass Aleph P is my favorite that I've owned or used. Probably a little low dollar for some, but I like it. I had a Counterpoint SA5.1 that was pretty good; much better once I found and fixed the PC .......

Given your physical size constraints, it would help to know what the stock cap ratings (uf/voltage) are. Those Korea Chem-con caps are suspect to begin with, quality-wise. Also as mentioned by another .......

I don't see any relays or the like in the schematics. The thermal breakers appear to be in series with line or neutral AC, so if it was one of these, I don't think it would turn on. I would take a DMM .......

The Panasonic's at the bottom are the only 4-pin caps on the page, not that that is really important. The Panasonic TH series are very good caps, and are 105C rated. .......

According to the DAC/transport lists I looked at, the EAD T-7000 is supposed to use a Sony KHS-130A, not the Pioneer Stable Transport. These are still available I think. Maybe I'm missing something... .......

The unseated rail fuse would probably do it. I assume there are +/- rails, and are individually fused for each channel. The unseated rail fuse for the "bad" channel would have caused a massive DC offs .......

I use my Pass Aleph P this way, wirh the tape out going to a headphone amp. The preamp needs to be powered up to pass signal thru to the tape outs. My previous tube pre did not need to be powered up. .......

The optical input is SPDIF as well, just uses an optical TX/RX chip(s), so the receiver chip should be OK (for both). The 7.89V is fine for the 8V supply. It appears that the DAC auto-selects between .......

You disconnected the IC from the source, but it was still connected to the headphone amp? There shouldn't be any voltage or current on the input of the amp. I would have it checked out if I were you. .......

I switched from a Counterpoint SA5.1 tube pre to an Aleph P and haven't looked back. The only thing I miss is the phono stage. The Counterpoint wasn't a particularly "tubey" sound, but I was surprised .......

Agree on the 25W. If you are in CA and there is a Fry's nearby, get a Hakko Dash 25W iron like this one: Hakko N454JN-V12 25W Solder Iron Much better than Tenma, cheap and effective. I use a Hakko 93 .......

For a BJT input opamp such as the LM6172, you aren't going to be able to just drop it in in many cases, as you found out. Opamps getting hot means they are oscillating, and dependent upon how bad the .......

Buy them from Digikey if you are concerned that you might get fakes on eBay. TI owns Burr Brown BTW. I personally wouldn't be too worried about OPA2107s. OPA627 or 637 I would worry about fakes. ::: T .......

There is a huge thread on diyaudio on modding CD63s and CD67s, with alot of (good) advice. I wouldn't necessarily dismiss an older player as being lacking in technology... sometimes it is the opposite .......

What were you using for your ground on your measurements? Pin 3 of either opamp is tied to ground, so that would be convenient. Pin 4 should definitely be negative wrt ground. And both should be aroun .......

a) uhh, yes... power has to be on b) doesn't really matter. I would try it both ways (opamps out, then in) c) With the notch facing left, pin 1 is the lower left corner. Pin 4 is lower right, pin 8 is .......

Yes, that is correct regarding the notches. Pull the opamps and see what the behavior is. If it's still the same, it probably isn't the opamps. Do you have a meter (DMM)? If so, check the voltages on .......

That's not your problem (you're talking about the lower right corner as you are looking at the player from the back?). The PCB is grounded via a 100 ohm resistor to chassis up at the upper left corner .......

I'd build something like amb's o11 (or o22 if it is takes a dual voltage +/- supply). Very low noise and stable, not too expensive. That is if you are comfortable building something and playing around .......

I'd definitely start with the caps, and would replace them with 105deg rated Panasonics or Nichicons (depends on whether they are snap-in or std. radial caps). Pana TSHA if snap-in, probably Nichicon .......

Sure, you could use BGs if you wanted to spend a bunch of money. Personally, I would use Panasonic FM or FCs for normal leaded caps, or TSHAs for snap-ins (check to see what the palyer is using and ph .......

Hmm, that wasn't my experience with the faster opamps. I never tried 2604s, but the AD826s and LM6172s both sounded good in mine. I have tried OPA2134/2132 in it and they sounded pretty good as well. .......

I had this problem with a dimmer on incandescent lights. Using a Brickwall conditioner did the trick. Of course, per the other responses, if you can quell the problem at the source, so much the better .......
