If they are early Model 6's the only way to get them apart is to drive a screw into the front panel and use a slide hammer to pull the front panel off. At least on mine the woofer surround and basket .......

You can use them with the 2A3's at the 2500ohm standard plate load, just connect your 8 ohm speakers to the 16 ohm secondary. This will also half the primary impedance as seen by the tube, giving you .......

I don't know of any James step-up transformers, but Lundahl makes some pretty inexpensive ones and I think they sell them in a kit for $250. I haven't tried the Lundahls, so I don't know how well they .......

If you just drop the 6CG7s in place of the 6SN7s the circuit should work fine with the specified parts (you might check if the heater current is the same, I don't remember off the top of my head). But .......

I used the AC impedance setting on my LCR meter for the measurement, and it's usually pretty accurate. I don't know all of the specifics on that tube, but 10 watts sounds reasonable. My preference is .......

I measured mine at about 1kHz into an 8 ohm load and I got 3600 ohms plate to plate. They should make nice shunt feed 2A3 or 45 OPTs. As for wattage they were rated somewhere around 25 watts for push- .......

Actually, according to the RCA Radiotron Manual, the reccomended loads are from 3.5k to 4.6k depending on the operating point. For you 4100 is close enough to the 3900 operating point of 250V @ 34mA, .......

If you don't humming you can use a transformers specified for your load. Humming really bothers me so I've been using NOS potted transformers lately. I haven't used toroids, because of their wider ban .......

If you are using a Hammond choke it will probably be less than 5H. I've probably bought a dozen or so Hammonds and they mostly measure less than the stated inductance that's with 0mA DC at 100HZ and 1 .......

If you replaced the tweeter with one of higher impedence the sensitivity should be lower, not higher. You could try putting a 24ohm resistor across the tweeter which will make it equivalent to 6 ohms .......

See Steve Bench's site for an inductance bridge you can make, it's probably more accurate than a not so cheap LCR meter. I paid $80 for mine and it's not accurate on big chokes. .......

If you can get 2 working Hickok tube testers for $100 each, buy both and sell the one you don't like on ebay. The better testers test transconductance not just emission, and have lots of sockets. olen .......

Try sheilding it with lead or copper tape, most golf pro shops have lead tape in 3/4" wide strips. Some hardware stores have copper tape. olen .......

The Foreplay is about as basic and affordable as a vacuum tube kit can be. If you just want to build something and learn about vacuum tubes, the cheapest way is to build a Foreplay. Vacuum tube audio .......

How about a single pentode wired as a triode? It might put out 2 watts if you run it hard, you can get more power if you run it as pentode. It's not a kit, so you'll have to get the parts yourself, bu .......

Apex Jr. has some. I bought 10 Aerovox 52uF/250VAC caps for $5 each, but they aren't pretty with white paper covers, I think they use them in air conditioners. And 2 100uf/250VDC Axon caps for $10 eac .......

Most tube xovers use another cathode follower input stage, to get a more consistant xover point. Then you can add a pot or stepped attenuator before the input stage as a volume control. For Steve's de .......

Mouser has some brushed (solid) aluminum knobs for around $3, up to 1.2" diameter. They also have anodized black ones, but they only go up .8" diameter. olen. .......

It is actually a good idea to use an isolation transformer. The "correct" transformer is just pretty much the same thing as an isolation transformer, but with additional secondaries for heaters and re .......

Parts express has them, but they have a minimum order of $20. They also sell nice Dayton gold insulated RCA jacks and plugs. If you order through the Audio Asylum they get a percentage of the purchase .......
