I have 2 I bought around 1980- it was a Thorens Q-Up originally. They work well but fit very few tables- can't mount them in an appropriate spot on most turntables and I have tried across 20 or so dif .......

If you have the simplest of electronics knowledge, get some sealed lead-acid batteries (for security alarm systems backup among MANY other backup-purposes) and connect them in the series/parallel conf .......

ESPECIALLY in the millivolt o/p range- shielding in critical as well.... I'm going to make a switch box for cartridges, but it will have a lot of shileding and a faraday cage around the internal wire, .......

My thoughts exactly! And the headshell leads are permanently attacted to the bayonet mount you can't swap them out.... just dumb! I like the idea of the tracking angle adjuster but why is everything p .......

It was brand-new Opus 104, so it must have been a factory defect of some sort then... I was shocked at the time.... my $4.00 Elac Miracord 50 HII (recent St. Vincent DePaul purchase) is virtually sile .......

I figured my Grace F9E would be a nice cartridge in my CS 5000 (really like that table!), so I took the stock Ortofon out and hooked up the Grace. Now, if you unplug the Dual so it doesn't auto-start, .......

It shifts the phase of the AC 90 degrees to start up the motor- if you remove the cap the motor will shudder in one spot, and if you were to spin the shaft either way the motor will spin in that direc .......

It's a starter cap to phase-shift the motor so it spins up, and in the correct direction. If you removed the cap you could spin the shaft either way an the motor would spin in that direction.... ::: T .......

It actually wasn't a failed lamp (It is a 120Vac neon bulb in North America anyway) but the clear plastic fresnel lens that covers it, which had broken. The clear plastic lens also holds the uniquely .......

I agree with you about the clamp, although I only use it on warped records, as my homemade platter mats are very adhesive, and clamps are rarely nessecary. p.s. I like your signature saying.... too tr .......

p.s. Lose the wheel reflectors! throws the wheels so far out of balance! If you need/want reflectors on the wheels use adhesive reflective tape stickum to stickum sides across several spokes- not bala .......

Is jammed on mine... the lock-lever moves fine, and feels like it's moving the appropriate internal "clamping screw" (or whatever it controls), so I'm guessing this arrangement is on a large coarse th .......

It looks very similar to a heavy-duty version of my Grace 747.... gimbals and anti-skating design... except the Grace is straight of course... very nice looking table- never seen that model of Yamaha .......

Up until '93 I was living in Toronto, which has quite a few high-end shops. The one I frequented was called "The Stereo Factory", in Richmond Hill. They carried all sorts of high end gear from Bryston .......

if you want non-toxic, try butter......... it's amazingly good on tar and sticker/label goo! However, the oils that make it great on tar also will possibly "oil" the wood, but it would be easy to remo .......

I like it, but it's all home brew and obviously has strengths and weaknesses- I have always loved transmission lines, but while these are capable of extreme low-end, they're very over-damped in the mi .......

Thanks, I did... I see very similar cartridges, but not mine... perhaps it's a Canadian version? It's like the "white gold" in appearance, but the body is black and the entire rest of the cartridge is .......

After some further "fondling" of the gimbal, it seems to be the needle bearing on the top/bottom of the gimbal.... in other words, the needle assembly you look down at from the very top of the gimabal .......

If the above suggestion proves it to be the pre-amp, can you clean the volume/balance pots? Putting the pre-amp in mono mixes the signal into a mono o/p, indicating the high level stage is ok... ::: T .......

Well, it looks like it, and I know how tough the stuff is- I use it for sewing up leather knife holsters etc.. Apparently the Inuit use it over Caribou tendon for their stuff now, makes sense I guess- .......
