I haven't heard the 685's, but I used to own the 602 series 2 and they were voiced on the cool side of neutral (for my taste). The 602's would not match up well with any Onkyo receiver that I've heard .......

If you can find a pair of Castle Warwicks, I would suggest considering them. I had a pair of B&W 602s2's and upgraded to the Castle's. Much better looking and much more refined sound; a great match fo .......

If Vanns offers a right of return, I don't think you can do much better for $100. I haven't heard the DV-48V, but I have a Pioneer DV-578as that isn't bad, when properly interfaced in a low budget sys .......

You should be able to find a new Pioneer Elite A-35R on the internet or ebay for a little less than $200. I haven't heard this thing, but it seems to be a good value and I have read some nice comments .......

If I were doing what you're doing today, I would suggest investigating the Pioneer Elite DV-48av, which is being closed out at about $100 (try vanns.com) and will likely sound better than an old playe .......

If you like the Pioneer sound (I have a 578a that is ok as a cheap transport and sounds better when used with a jitter reduction device, which you have), I would suggest you look into the Pioneer Elit .......

Have you tried removing one or both of the DIPs from the system? While I have found most transports benefit from a jitter reduction device, I have found one or two that didn't. I haven't tried the Opp .......

The Vandersteen 1b or 1c might be a better match for your room and amp and should be available used for $600. I don't know for sure but I would think that 2ce's in good condition will sell for over $6 .......

My favorites are the Harmonic Technology Cyberlink Copper and Phoenix Gold DRX-910. Neither cable is as revealing as a silver based cable, but I prefer their tonal balance with the transports and dacs .......

Assuming your transport has either a coaxial or toslink spidf output and the dac has the corresponding input, they should work together. You should set your dvd player for pcm output and whatever samp .......

If you would like to hear Vandersteens sound much different than what you have now, suggest you listen to them driven by Quicksilver Mono amps. You may need different interconnects and speaker cables .......

I use a Rotel RB-1050 that is 70wpc, not expensive and has never gotten warm. Not sure what your Forte sounds like so I am not sure if the Rotel will match up well with the rest of your gear. ::: TOPI .......
