I had a pair with the Crites updates that I used with a Rel subwoofer tuned to below 60hz. Everything sounded great using SE tube amps. I finally got rid of them, not because of any fault, but simply .......

I agree. I'm using one in an adapter as a control tube for a quad of 6L6's in a single-ended parallel amp made for me by the late "Niteshade" builder. .......

I run my M-lores on 8-10 watts: its plenty ! I've also used 4-5 watts for some chamber music, and its fine. Enjoy your new speakers. .......

I use Sonos, but it requires an external DAC to sound good. I use the Schiit Gungnir. Hi-rez is not supported, but my library , Slacker, and much else - like 1jazz.ru - sound great. At my age I no lon .......

Have you compared an upgraded Sonos Connect to a standard Connect going through a first-class DAC? My understanding of the upgrade is that it improves the stock Sonos DAC (a poor one) in the connect. .......

I agree completely with abs1. I use either a 14 watt 6l6-based SEP or an el84-based SEP amp putting out 22 watts. This speaker is as good as my Klipsch Forte's with all the Crite's upgrades ::: TOPIC: .......

On other point worth mentioning: One of the channels on my Gungnir became noisy. After contact the manufacturer and receiving an RA, it was returned for repair . It ws returned to me in a week in perf .......

Many DACs have optical connections. Two examples that I am using are the iDAC by Peachtree and the Gungnir by Schiit. And, yes, the optical connection sounds btter than the SPDIF IMHO. There was a dis .......

They have already upgraded the Bifrost with the add-on and they still sell the Gungnir, which while a bit more expensive still makes the ratio of quality:price very good. .......

I've been using Songza since they were born: very efficient; endless playlists of any genre one can use; currently free through Sonos. Only downside: its output is 256kps, but sounds good. ::: TOPIC:: .......

Yes! A DAC is the way to go. I use a Schiit Gungnir in one room and a Peachtree idac in another. They both make a huge diference with the edge going to the Schiit product. I had the Bifrost first: les .......

Yes. I have a custom made parallel 6L6-based SET (14 watts) and a 421A SET (4.5 watts) Both sound better than the Dared, but the Dared is no slouch. Enjoy! .......

Almost any used Klipsch heritage series from the Quartet upwards. I use Forte's and Quartets. Used Cornwalls and LaScala fit your budget also; maybe a few Klipschorns if you have the room. All are >98 .......

Look at the Visaton from Germany. tehre is a distributor in CA. They were a great addition to my HDT's and only required a small resistor to get their sensitivity down to near 95 from the stated 100db .......

My experience is with Decware's HDT's. They are terrific! At 96db sensitivity and an easy 8 ohms, they run well with 2.5 watts or anything above. I've addded supertweeters to mine, but that's just ici .......

It should work fine, and the volume controls will control each amp equally. Both Almarro amps should have their volume controls in the max position (totally clockwise), which should be unity and take .......

I listen to both the Sovtek mentioned by Jim McShane and the Valve Art 2A3-c. They are both excellent and better than the RCA double plates. I've never heard the single plates which everybody says are .......

Both the Almarro A205a and the Decware Taboo fit this bill. I prefer the latter because of the tube rectification and the variety of tubes than can be used to tune the amp. Have fun. .......

While missing a lot of what you suggest, the Decware Taboo uses tube rectification and some other tricks that makes it sound better than the Almarro for no difference in price. It still works as a SEP .......

Can't speak to those speakers, but with 96 db speakers, the 2A3 and 845's sounded better than the 300b's. In fact the EL84 running in SEP (pentode)sounded better. Borrow some and try them. Have fun. : .......

If you can bias your amp or if it is self-biasing, there should be no problem using those tubes (which are pretty closely matched) or using less well-matched tubes. .......

I used a 300b with those Thiels without a problem. Even my 2A3 amp did well with those speakers. They have a benign impedance curve (never lower than 3 ohms). Unless you are already half deaf becasue .......

Thanks. Also got an answer from Divergent. They commented that running the amp at 650mv will lengthen the life of the tubes. i can't hear any diferences anywhere from 600-700mv. .......

I had an ASL Tulip, 2A3 amp, modded by Response Audio. They don't get much better than this. A completely new, modded amp is still a bargain price. Check out www.responseaudio.com .......

Your point is a good one. The Sovteks are good, but I think the meshplates are a bit better in terms of bass control and just a more even response from one frequency exteme to the other(power is not t .......

I've just had the same experience with my ASL Tulip. It sounds much better with a 2A3 than with a 45. Folks have suggested that the voltage on the Tulip needs to be turned down from 600 to 300 and the .......

I've recently reassed the need for the Rel and have dialed it down to about35hz. The bass on the HDT's is more than I expected. At least in my room, a sub is not necessary. .......

Don't forget Decware's HDT's. They are a transmission line setup; 96db at 8 ohms; single driver (no crossover); and they sound fantastic with 300b's. I'm waiting for my 2A3's for them as I type. ::: T .......

I don't know about ASL (although I'm getting the Tulip modded from Response Audio). But for every other tube amp that I've owned, the VH Audio, flavor 2 is outstanding. Check it out; very nice folks. .......

The hardwood is laid on a subfloor just as in a house with a full basement. There are no differences. My downfiring Rel sits on hardwood and functions perfectly. .......

The Dared 300B serves me very well for classical music. Brand new, it is under $900 with good tubes (nos 12au7's and Valve Art 300b-98c).Enjoy. .......

I'm very happy with Thiel 1.6's and a Rel sub. The thiel's are 90db with a flat 4 ohm impedance curve and sound great with my 845. They get downto about 45 hz, so the sub is helpful. Good luck. ::: TO .......

My guess is that the Dared VP-845 will sound better and will drive your speakers with ease. My Dared worked great with Thiel 1.6's, which are 4 ohm dropping only to 3 ohm. I also think you would like .......
