my experience has been to set the Wadia output voltage at a point where the pre-amp is 2/3 to 3/4 full volume. if running direct, you want the output voltage set at a point where the Wadia volume is a .......

i'm using 1000W pure class A mono blocks. they require around 5KVA at peak. so that's a 220V 30A circuit for each amp. .......

You are absolutely correct that all of those pre-amps are very expensive. I have found that one of the primary benefits that these pre-amps offer, is an absurdly low noise floor. Now whether the rest .......

clocking is critical. clocks have many performance criteria. these include "drift" and "accuracy", among others. in any system, even a single box player, if these performance criteria are compromised .......

Your review is using the "Wadia" as a frame of reference, but you don't indicate which "Wadia". There are great differences from the 860, to 861, to 861se. And far greater differences between an 830 .......

your last question is far more pertinent. for critical listening you're far more likely to use the DAC's in a high end CD player, than the DAC a surround processor. yes, i love running my cd player .......

My 588 was overly smooth when new. This did improve with age, and the 588 did make beautiful music. It was only after direct comparison (some fair, some unfair) that I realized just how "too smooth .......

I have dealt with this myself. Try running around and turning off EVERYTHING in the house. Most likely it is a dimmer switch somewhere or an appliance. This is alot easier if you have dedicated aud .......

I would hesitate to use the Elgar/Purcell with anyhting but the Verdi, given that dCS has a proprietary clock link, and that the Verdi is an amazing transport. clock link also made the Wadia 27ix/270 .......
