I've been using AC running around 80KHz on my D.I.Y. 211 amp for around a year and a half and love it. Very open, NO hum, and pretty cheap to implement! Do a search in D.I.Y. tubes for mrfixit and tri .......

I did a very similar treatment when building mine; although I have a decent sweep generator capable of doing square waves, I burned a CD-R with fast rising warble tones from 18-40Hz and ran that hard .......

Yep, a good finish is usually an exercise! Darker colors always seem to require more effort as well, especially if you want that "depth" to come through. Please post some pix when you are ready! ::: T .......

Circuit breakers can work, but can have similar issues; many breakers have a slower break time than a fast blow fuse (they usually are closer in pedigree to a slow blo fuse), and also can compromise s .......

Ideally, yes, adjustment of the "eye pattern" with an oscilloscope is the best way. Too low - mis-tracking, skipping, won't read the TOC. Too high, shortened laser life, odd chirping noises and other .......

I'm no design expert by any means, but with my DIY 211 amp, I redesigned my bias supply from its original ~ -60vdc to one that can hit about -170 vdc. With that setup I can run an 845 with about 1150v .......

This is an older pix - I've since added metering, output tube cages etc, but you can get the idea. I too recommend the Amphenol stuff for the wire harness; you can save a LOT of money finding them sur .......

Yep - it is a bit strange at first as it tends to bead up, but after the pad is wet and a light scrub, it definitely "gets in the groove". Do be a bit cautious with carbon fiber brushes - they work ve .......

Yes, they tie into the vacuum unit and I did a bit of "modification" as well. The original wet vac is a Coleman unit oriented around portable use (cars, boats etc.) and uses a smallish lead acid batte .......

Just the vinyl wash, but my initial tests were after a DD treatment. I didn't use any rinse step based on many posts (here and elsewhere), that even standard lab grade deionized H2O leaves more residu .......

I was always taught that the 3db/perceptul change/doubling power rule applied to the -bass- range. Also that many tests have been done to substantiate that many people, in mid-upper Fz's, can perceive .......

...I use "relay sockets" - they have screw terminals integrated around the socket and are great for prototyping. I believe AMP and others make them; I've always picked them up on eBay cheap (under $5) .......

Actually, the "listed" voltage drop was based on what is occuring with my plate choke setup now vs. "what might be" with an interstage. More of a rough reference point. I'm also a bit concerned about .......

Ok, I used both of the 30H's for plate chokes feeding the 6C45Pi's. After rereading the specs on the tube, it lists 28Ma min., 40Ma average and 52Ma max, so I felt one choke feeding both drivers might .......

On the power supply, you have the mains transformer (plate use only) and on the left a 10Hy 1/2 amp choke. I'm using smaller caps (a .5Mfd followed by 2 20Mfd oilers in series) and a hybrid diode/866M .......

It's a directly heated triode and one that needs 10 volts at a whopping 10 amps per tube. Not an easy supply to keep quiet without some care! .......

I just used a wipe or two of Minwax Cherry #235 with a steel wool rub in between. Followed that up with about 6 coats of hand rubbed Minwax paste wax. Although my woodworking skills are pretty good, m .......

Here is my 211 project. My only complaint is that the 211's throw out enough heat that the paste wax finish "dulls" a bit about 1/2" around the base of the tubes, but nothing severe even after about 8 .......

My 211 setup only slightly "dulls" the wax polish about an inch around the output tubes, so I can live with that! Red Oak, stained, with about 5 coats of Minwax wax... .......

Mainstream speaker ratings are for the most part useless. As mentioned by Ryder below, speaker effeciency/sensitivity AND how stable/"friendly" a load it presents to the amplifier is what is important .......

You can use Blue-Tac or Mortite. A small wad between the top of the cart and headshell will work. It's like any tweak, it can help coupling, dampening etc., but like all things - Y.M.M.V.! ::: TOPIC:: .......

I used the "final amp" schematic with fixed bias. I did try cathode bias briefly while I was building the bias supply, but it just didn't have the punch I needed. Paul's comments on parafeed are legit .......
