Triode, funny, before you sent this message, I ordered some from Harrison labs just to see if this would lower it a bit. I figured for the cost it was worth the experiment. They claim a 12db reduction .......

Mark, that's interesting, just to clarify, your issue was "hiss" not "hum" I have heard of deceives like this helping with AC hum but not hiss. I am skeptical, but perhaps the architecture of the AF d .......

No problem Sigung, it's one of the few areas on AA I can be of some help as I am not an audio or electrical engineer -lol. The Fisher case looks fantastic, nice design, and the birch ply is a good cho .......

Triode, in the schematic that I obviously missed, is the tube used a 5Ar4? or 6X4? sorry if this is newb-y- Looks like the the smaller winding ties into the larger winding on pin 8 and 1 all grounded .......

Ad nauseam, here is the same model Scott units, these I restored for a friend, but my friend wanted a thicker 3/4 reveal around the face plate. Same method, you can guess that there is even more room .......

added some additional info and images to previous response to really confuse you -lol also another option... if you are not confident in this idea, try a dry run prototype by making a foam-core mockup .......

Mikey, the one I restored sounded pretty good, lots of meat on the bottom end, but like I said, it hissed at idle and so does this one. I could just finish cleaning it up and re- sell as it all works, .......

I doubt that this particular switch at its current age even has 2500 cycles on it, probably more like 1k cycles in it's entire life. it's been in my possession since new and I have a good record of it .......

Fender, Yes I have actually gone through all the inputs at one time and shorted them with the selector on each. It does not affect the hum. It is rumored that the 130 selector switch shorts the inputs .......

The 121's that are my main pre-amps, I recall have a choke in them as stock, perhaps this is why those did not have this issue.. Though due to lack of space there, I went 25uf or 20uf on the first pol .......

Dave, so yes you are correct, I did, the original uses the old twist lock filter caps and multiple grounds ran to each ground lug of the filter. The new caps are no longer twist lock so I ran a ground .......

Hey Dave thanks for the response, so my 130 also has, in addition to the mystery parts, those low value ceramic disc capacitors, tied to that resistor. They are present on the ones with the bumble bee .......

That's an interesting comment, my main speakers are Zu Omen standards, I've modded them with MKII soul super fly drivers, but I would guess these are a similar speaker to the Tekton M Lores. They are .......

yes kept the original OPT, it was tempting to change it out, but I figured the investment for a curiosity project wouldn't justify it. There was a major improvement in dynamics alone with the polyfilm .......

update... so I borrowed a guitar and brought it home and plugged it into the amp... The good news is that it sounds wonderful, clean, nicely rounded...in fact I think it sounds better as a guitar amp .......

Yes,I think this is the culprit. The more I read, I think this is why it didn't sound right. I know my speakers need 16 OHM. I once tried them on the 8 ohm setting in stereo, and they sound terrible, .......

it is a non issue really I thought it would be a problem but it's nothing really, however, if you want one volume control I don't see why you could not use a passive pre-amp like a gold point to combi .......

Mikey, yes, you absolutely need the film caps up front!! it cleans up the power with great efficiency better than electrolytic. I used the Samra formula of course, and again thanks for helping me with .......

It was not easy fishing through the wire soup.. like I said, you have to plan your moves well ahead when you start work.. I will say though, it is dead quiet and clear as a bell, despite how the wires .......

I think you may want to investigate a Scott 208, it's basically the same stand alone power amp as the outputs in an LK72 or 299..uses 7591's should sound very much the same, and I don't think they are .......

no, I have owned this amp for a long time now, no mods other than the usual upped capacitance from the new filters. Coupling and by pass caps were replaced earlier about 4 years ago, along with seleni .......

ha, I double checked to make sure it doesn't follow that part of the schematic :) yes all the tube shields are present, and all of the filters and DC caps have been replaced including 201 and 202, now .......

update, This morning I tried lifting up the speaker using coasters. This was something one user tried... I have the front lifted up almost 2 inches and the rear about 1 inch.. so it is tilted upward w .......

Hi, thanks for the response, the amp is a push pull parallel amp. It does have 4ohm 8ohm and 16ohm tap. Not sure with the odd 12 ohm load of the Omen, which would be the best option here. Not that I h .......

Ozz, yes, I sort of thought that is what would occur with the sub, which is why I wasn't going there initially, but though I would entertain the idea, bass and deep bass..and nice sounding bass is not .......

Tre, yes, I was expecting the same result... but with both grounds off the RCA's, the amp is the same.. the real bad hum which you mentioned, will only occur if I disconnect the other end of the coax. .......

Jim! man hate to drag you into this, yes the micro phonic sound will transmit through both channels, the hum is a tad higher in one channel than the other.I am suspicious about it being a tube issue. .......

Danny, yes my V does exhibit this characteristic, it has what I would describe as a "burst" at just past 9:00. at this point the amp really tightens up and punches the bass and lower mids like no othe .......

Inmates, have been testing a Citation V on and off over the last month or so. I re-built it with McShane kits. All new tubes, new input jacks. All new resistors replaced with the resistor kit, choke, .......

Steve O is right, I have been using the Russian 7189, military long lasting in my Scott 222, it is as close to spec if not better than any El84 "M" They need some break in and can be a tad gruff, but .......

recently re-capped a Scott LC 21 pre-map, just replaced the coupling caps, replaced them with .1mk K-40s. It had been capped with .1K Illinois caps. After this was complete, I now have a channel that .......

The tongsols are still burning in, but, they sound more forward than the original 7581 RCAs that I had in there, which kind of had a laid back presentation. They feel a tad more compressed and bit edg .......

Hello inmates, recently I restored a Citation I pre- amp with all of Jim McShane's kits, PS, line stage, and phono stage kits. It works and sounds wonderful, with the exception of one annoying problem .......

I think the 222 EL 84 is a non neg feedback design, however only 18 - 20 watts. The local dealer says definitely the DM line (or probably old audience)is the "best" line of Dyna that would work with .......

I checked the the HH Scott site and it actually lists the 7189A for out put tube, which is rated for higher plate voltage. One of the original tubes in it was an RCA 7189A, the others were hard to tel .......

I did check the center output, it is in fact volume controlled, this is exactly what I was looking for, it would have been nice if it was stereo output with separate "A" and "B" channels, but as you s .......

I am not sure where you got the impression I was using tubes for a sub. The MC 2100 is an SS amp, I am using RM 9 for driving my speakers. I would never use tubes for a sub, no way. thanks for the inf .......

I picked up a decent RM 9 with 8 siemens El 34 output tubes. I have run it all weekend and as per usual I love that high end and mid range layering and detail. This amp has much more power than the MC .......
