The Dowdy choke would not be an ideal candidate for the parameters you have stated in your post. We make other plate chokes that are better for lower current apps and would have correspondingly higher .......

Unless the galvanic isolation of the 1:1 has strong value in your circuit I just don't see that this approach has much to recommend it. Especially if it is an airgapped 1:1 interstage. Most airgapped .......

It would be much,much more expensive to do a quote rewind as opposed to just building new transformers. You would be paying to tear down the trans and then paying for a new winding. Also your not goi .......

The thing to watch out for on the single winding autoformers is that the load impedance that the source sees changes with every tap... so you will actually have say 23 different impedances that the tu .......

Unlikely that the displacement would have caused harm (by itself) in the insulation on the lams. To straighten out--- remove the hardware (assuming 4 bolts) and then tap, tap, tap the lams (gingerly) .......

Probably not easily. Although if you can verify that the vintage choke was designed for choke input duty... than most likely it will have sufficient ripple voltage capacity to work in vacuum tube lev .......

Paul's note about using the center tapped secondary is correct. If you use the lower impedance (150 ohms) tap single ended (with one end of the 150 ohm winding at ground) then you will have sub-optima .......

I can confirm that the NAG stands for "nickel air gapped"... the 10X10 would have indicated that the lams were stacked alternately(i.e., interleaved) in groups of ten... but your units are NOT stacke .......

this is not critical--- most chokes do not even have separate color leads--- we put separate colors so that at least you can consistently hook up your chokes the same way. Standard recommendation is .......

My brother Tom (b. 1949) passed away today (6\8\2012). What makes it tough is that he was not only my oldest brother but also a childhood hero of mine. Tom was a veteran dirt track stock car owner .......
