Good point! A rubber band driven platter is a far better alternative. Hey now that I think about it, don't they use direct drive for cutting lathes? .......

Yes I did take the rigidity into account as the bolts were quite loose initially. There is a lot of mass here and I tightened the bolts after I placed the table at the desired height. Took quite a bit .......

thank you. Yes I did the work myself the chassis I bought from Dynakit parts, the transformers are original. I do have a rebuilt stereo 70 with the octal drivers, I prefer the MKIV's .......

Maximum height is around 3.5 feet, looks very able to hold a lot of weight as my 'table' weighs at least 30LBS or 40 LBS - solid baltic birch plinth and a copper platter atop a Technics SP25. Yes thos .......

Yes it's not in their catalogue and I did find it 'on the floor'. They had one more out after I bought mine. I think its a recreation of sorts of a machine table re purposed. It looks new. ::: TOPIC:: .......

With all due respect...'silkiness and richness' are easily mistaken for rolled off highs and lack of detail. My experience is that the AT is simply amazing for the money and places me into a quandry r .......

I sold a Benz Wood M2 and replaced it with a AT150MLX and could not be more pleased with the results. More detail and punch by far...YMMV Thanks, Morris .......

Well...my take on this subject is that I sold my Michell Tecnodec after doing a side by side comparison with a new SL1200M5G. Cartridge was a Benz M2 wood body through an ARC PH7 - KT88 PP amps - Mart .......

Honestly I think the improvement would be marginal. Most of the 'sound quality' of an amplifier results from its design topology and not from its components.... Thanks, Morris .......

I modded my MkIII's with the VTA mods and they sound great! I have used the Curcio mods and home brewed 6sn7 drivers but prefer the VTA by far. Lots of gain (perhaps a bit much for active preamps) ver .......
