"Unity gain" means the preamp does not add any gain to the source signal. If a DAC or phono preamp puts out 2 volts, the Saga only puts out the same 2 volts with the volume knob all the way up. So, on .......

Keep in mind that digital volume control reduces the number of bits as you lower the volume which can affect sound quality, particularly as you go below 75%, give or take a bit. .......

And, if new, have you recently changed anything else? Even with a rat's nest of cables, it should be easy to unplug things down to a base state with minimal connections to see if the hum goes away. .......

Not sure what to tell you. I run Picoreplayer 7.0 and I made the notes in my first post from logging on to the player from with my laptop. .......
