i finally got around to checking the voltages. following brian's manual - chapter 10, these are what i got: 1. checked power tubes pin 5 - brought each up to -50v. 2. checked heaters on power tubes .......

Hello, i turned on ella just a while back - went to work on my pc while it warmed up and heard a fairly loud thud [even with the vol pot turned all the way down]. i turned around to see the first righ .......

hi, as advised, get a heat gun. if you plan on making more cables, it will come in handy. before i got myself a heat gun, this worked, and pretty well too: - gently run a clothes iron over your cables .......

hi im rewiring the ella p2p - the diagram calls for 4w 10R and 220R resistors. the only quality resistors i can get are vishay sfernice and the closest is 3w - the next value is 7 w. would 3w be fine? .......

thanks russ for the insight. the bias point was around 40 all the while as the bias pots refused to go beyond this. i could get 55 out of 6550s and maybe a bit more but with el34's 40 was about the ma .......

latest observation - 2 of the tubes have silvery flecks in them. not sure if this helps in diagnosing the problem. tubes may have gone bad but it would be odd for 2 to knock off at about the same time .......

the popping does not happen immediately upon switching on - for about half a minute or more - things are fine - then the fireworks begin and there is this faint burning smell - visual examination of t .......

im using canare f10 rca plugs. the 0.01uf 50v ceramic caps that i have wont fit into this. and because the ic - with the teflon tape - 3 wraps over the cores, followed by cotton string on the crease a .......

Jon, for a given length of made up cable [lets say 6 feet], twisted [lets say 4-6 twists per foot], how much linear length would be required, to accomodate shrinkage due to the twisting? sorry if this .......

i added an upsampling card to my link 2 - the trick is to look at the rear of your msb - if there is a rubber stopper (which is removed to accept a toggle switch) then you probably have the link 2 whi .......

hi - wouldnt know the current price but just wanted to say these are great speakers - they were my first speakers in fact way back in 1979 - i was just 18 then - time flies - i had them until 2 years .......

i use a sable hair paint brush which you will find in any artists' supply shop - a tiny one for the tweeters and a bigger one for the midbass( depending on the size of yours ) - and a blower - gently .......

hi i had a similar problem like the one youve described over the weekend - take a look at the capacitors..i found a competent tube amp specialist to take a look and it seemed that 3 caps had sort of b .......
