I don't want to spoil anyone's fun by not recomending a Carina with the Sterlings, but the Sterlings need more power. I will recommend the Carina with the SI's any day though, Eddie Vaughns EL84 based .......

The CONN tube amp has a quad of 7868 power tubes. I have no idea about how much real power the co-axs see though. I believe it is push-pull....I know its not single ended. I use an Imod as a source, .......

Glad this worked out for you..the Expression can sound very nice once its released from some of the stock parts that inhibit the beast within. I went with Bullet plugs, but its probably best to stay .......

Its a vinyl damping material made especially for isolating trafo's from chassis. www.speakercity.com has it, but its usually out of stock. I have 2 entire sheets of the stuff - if you'd like enough .......

I posted a pic a while back. Easy enough to do... I moved the base of the dangly weight support pole from being screwed into the tonearm base. Slide it about 2 cm toward the platter and secured it up .......

except i found that air dried maple sounds WAY better than kiln dried. I'm not exactly comparing apples-to-apples though... i have 4 difft platforms: 2 are identical Timbernation 15" x 18" x 2" thick .......

I had the exact same issue with Herbie's washers too... excellent idea but they squished out when overtightened. Steve, any plans to make thicker washers or another design altogether? I'd think for .......

I'm about to construct a pair of sub IC's. I haven't made IC's yet but have been soldering a bit lately...IC's are next on the list. you should be wary of hum. Shielding might be prudent. I'm leaning .......

I made a 12' pair from 2 - 50' rolls...sorry for the confusion. If you want an 8' pair, it'll cost you $22. Anything longer will cost $44. :) .......

Yup....if you are missing anything always look to other parts of the system too. the TVC tells on all crap in the signal chain. Once you find the groove though, tweak the heck out of your little ciga .......

The LP covers will work for all your gear...makes no difference what type it is as long as it makes music. :) Literally i have 6 or 7 LP covers just sitting on my racks shelves...my gear simply sits .......

There's a host of tweaks you should attempt to bring out bass and any other desireable characteristics from your TVC. Its best to check out the 190 page thread at Audiocircle though...all the freaks .......

You might have the MMF5 on the wrong pulley. On my Expression, I have to move the pulley to the 45 RPM pulley when using the Speedbox. If the motor has 2 pulleys (one of top, the other on bottom) tr .......

the Black Hole 5 material is for inside of speakers...it absorbs sound similar to acoustic foam right? that's NOT what i used. This Black Hole Pad is available from Speaker City in california...$7 pe .......

The arm tube is aluminum, not CF...but it didn't come with the sliding weight. however, the arm tube does have the markings for that sliding weight. i'm to believe its the MA 707 after looking at the .......

Personally, i think .shn sounds the best out of all the lossy formats, but it seems to be just about dead by now. i've not done any head-to-head tests recently, but i can tell the diff between a flac .......

I haven't looked at the mfgr specs, but mine is set to 1.4gm i found that info on the mfgr or needledoctor website. a few times my counterweight has slid forward producing 1.8 grams & the cantilever .......

Your square room is not optimal. Try a simple kit from 8th nerve or Michael Green that's within your budget. there's a host of panel makers too. acoustics matter more than a single IC... .......

I've used a Trends TA 10.1 amp in my system and with vinyl...it was super cool when my TVC preamp was used in-line. With the Trends flying solo it wasn't too magical. this was with A/D/S monitors tha .......

There's really no comparison, get a TVC. I owned the Belles GR8 passive preamp for 2 years, it was terrible in comparison to my Promitheus TVC. a good tvc can be as good as, or better than, ANY preamp .......

I know of 2 sources, Timbernation & Mapleshade. If $ is no object, the only way to fly is mapleshade's 4" thick 18" x 24" board, under my TT it makes Timbernation's 3" thick kiln dried wood sound like .......

I use the BlueJeans LC-1 subwoofer interconnect. It will not induce hum, its shielding is top notch. I cannot vouch for the sound though, i've never pitted them A-B against my Anti-IC's or any other I .......

I thought it was a 'rule of thumb'? if speakers are able to physically rock back and forth, the opposite of securely spiked, it does affect the performance since the drivers are held in place securely .......

With my situation its definitely the speaker cables. Since i can flip back & forth between sp cables or IC's to do the same thing i threw in an anti-IC as well. its as quiet as the Blue Jeans cable LC .......

to my ears, the Golds are wildly smooth. The Silvers sound just fine but there's a quality to the Golds that, to me, is worth the extra $. Maybe there's a bit difft bass & that's what i like? i don' .......

Try the Mitsui Gold Audio Masters that are rated for 1x - 12x...that's all i use in my HHB 850. don't quote me on this, but i recall reading that these HHB players do not like CDRW. Also, i'd bet most .......

There might be an audible diff between 1 direction or the other. To test this leave all your gear off. Only listen for a few minutes per 'direction' and pick a 1 minute section of a track that's famil .......

My 440MLa has only about 70 records on it so far, but i do recall the break-in period being weird. The harshness or brightness would ebb and flow, come and go sort of. After about 10 hrs it disappea .......

I don't use it as a CDP anymore, but you can tweak it a little to get more bass. adding the aftermarket interconnect A/V cable hook-up box helps but you have to use your own IC's then. XBOX blows away .......

I have a Lovan Classic rack, its 4 separate shelves and each shelf has 3 spiked legs. The mdf shelving of mine sounds HORRIBLE, simply toxic. From what i've seen, Lovan hasn't changed that material... .......

Transferring vinyl to a computer harddrive and then to CD-R has never been easier...lots of products available to make the proces simpler. I have not used this, but the Hagerman 'Ripper' comes to mind .......

Hey Robert, You can usually take a 2nd pair of speaker cables and run them from your amps speaker posts and into the sub's speaker level inputs...most powered subs have the option to connect via a sin .......

Furutech has audio specific plugs, whatever that means...but they sound damn good. I have several Fi-11M cu male plugs mated to Fi-11Ag Iec ends. For $30 you might not beat the Fi-11M. My recomendatio .......

Yes. The wall-wart power supply plugs into the SB and the SB has a wire that runs out of it into the back of your TT. 2 great Speed box tweaks: 1) pull the wall-wart wires apart all the way from the w .......

Keep the Thiels and buy the mapleshade 4" thick speaker plinths that are 12" x 15". They are expensive, but you can send them back if you don't like them. their 2" thick products don't have bass like .......

I've not used either, but the RAL umbilical for my phono preamp is absolutely amazing...by far the best aftermarket power cord purchase i've made. RAL knows their stuff, and i think there's a $ back t .......

The speakers I mentioned are simply small monitors, about 20"t x 8"W x 10" deep. I'm not sticking with this set-up since after giving my old floorstanders another trial...but i just shelled out anoth .......

For $90 this 440MLa is a heck of a performer right out of the box. So far there's not as much 'wow' as the Grado Gold, but the super duper low noise floor and dynamite imaging have me captivated. In .......

They weigh 2x as much as sand...my rack won't budge even if kicked. Also, they are lead in the center and copper on the exterior and i'm pretty sure copper sounds better than lead. i'm not only trying .......

I have an older Lovan Classic rack, about 3 years old, and have filled the top shelf (for my TT) with BB's as you and the other 3 with sand. I can't say that its a good or bad sounding rack at all, b .......

I've had a bulk pair for a few years, they just keep getting better. i removed the enamel and keep oxidation off w/600 grit sandpaper. After installing eichmann's cablepods on my speakers and amps it .......

The top shelf vert legs (of the 4 indiv shelves) are filled with BB's...the .177 caliber copper plated lead-center one's used for kids BB guns. It costs a lot more than sand, but the mass is excellen .......

i really like the way the anti-cables sound. I've owned a bulk pair w/bare terminations for almost 2 years now. recently i twisted them up, 3-4 twists per foot, and the highs got really smoooth. b .......

a few too many sharp bends and the cable will break in 2 pieces. even though this wire is softer than coat hanger, it can get brittle & break apart like one. i don't recomend actually twisting-up th .......

I went to Pro Musica in late Oct or early Nov of this year...its the only shop I stayed away from since it sells hi-end brands. On a whim i stopped in and gave them a chance. i don't think they sell .......
