I'd like to pick them up but at $25 a pop it's hard to totally justify. That is some of the best music ever recorded though. I doubt the LPs would be a dramatic improvment over the CDs, the original r .......

Finally got off work and put the Smog album right on. The wrap has the usual Lost Highway '180 Gram Vinyl' sticker, but I must say these LPs seem a bit lighter to me. Not a bad thing IMHO. They're VER .......

RCA Victor issued those classical 45 'albums' on red vinyl. I like to pick up sets whenever I find them in nice condition. I guess they thought music fans who were used to stacking 78 albums wouldn't .......

EMI's American arm had a real sick talent of making otherwise lovely recordings sound like utter poo. Every Melodya reissue on Angel I've ever heard sucks large, regardless of spelling. dan c ::: TOPI .......

No no, it's mechanical noise. I've done much listening and testing. The noise is constant from start to finish and not audible through my system when the arm is cued up. I'm also using the great Shure .......

I believe I have the ES-1, but there's no model marking anywhere that I can find. It has the rounded edges on the plinth. I've seen one similar to mine that had sharp edges, otherwise it seemed basica .......

Early generations of those tracks no longer exist, sadly. Many of the tracks that made it to the final film were dubbed and heavily EQ'ed with Stowkie himself calling the shots. It was an amazing acco .......

Some were pressed on "vinylite", very few. There were some RCA 33 1/3 experimental records pressed and issued on vinyl in the 30's. If he has some of them, they MIGHT be worth something to a collector .......

I agree with Bruce, sounds like a tracking issue. Many 12" singles are cut pretty hot and probably near the limits of trackability. This one might just push the edge too much. There's probably a vinyl .......

Remember that record labels used their own EQ on LPs before the RIAA standard was put into place, I think around 1954. Early Columbia LPs can sound weird without some EQ adjustment. I haven't tried on .......

Personally, I think the original pressings (I have two) are much better. The Mastersound is too harsh and a bit forward for my tastes. There might be more clarity, but that also might be a side effect .......

I believe that Superscope distributed Sony in the 60's but lost that deal when Sony set up their own US affiliate. That's around the time Superscope took control of Marantz in the US in the early 70's .......

I've read that some defective CD's from the early 80's made by Philips started to oxidize years ago. I guess if it hasn't happened to your CD's by now it won't happen anytime soon. There's still debat .......

One of my faves is Bernstein with the NYP from the late 50's on CBS. I have a 6-eye mono pressing, and it ROCKS! Whiplash playing, very intense. Sony's stereo CD sounds pretty good too. Avoid his 70's .......

I've also heard that the Columbia is the best way to hear this album. And that's the ONLY Columbia version I've ever seen reccomended over Costello's UK vinyl. Weird. Nice find! Dan C .......

Yup, radio transcription disks. The groove spacing was different (wider) than our beloved LPs, there wasn't any RIAA eq on them. In spite of the super sizing, they only held about 15 minutes per side .......

I absolutly love Rubinstein in every era. He played with warmth and passion up until retirment, although some of his live 70s performances are pretty messy at times. His best work, IMHO, was in the 50 .......

And I agree with your thoughts on Vox. These are everywhere and I've got quite a few in nice shape. A Vox anniversary CD collection from a few years back has a nice booklet of the history of this fine .......

Few if anyone in the Asylum seem to agree with me, but I really think Tannoy is the way to go if you're irked by bright sound. Some call them "fuzzy" or "confused" sounding, but I think they sound nat .......

...for their price range. Tannoy speakers have a warm sound that isn't everybody's taste. Wonderful mids, very musical. I have a pair of Mx3 floorstanders that I absolutly love, and they seem to work .......

I agree. The guy who ran VOX in the 50's and 60's was known to have a golden ear for finding young rising talent as well as finding great lesser known players. The recordings teams were freelanced and .......

This is interesting. My public radio station is a translater link from miles away in Laramie, Wyo. When I'm in Laramie, the audio is what you'd expect from a good public radio station. Up in Casper ho .......
