I think that kind of muddy/bassy sound on Daptone, Desco et al is very intentional. They make new funk-influenced music and they try hard to make it sound as authentic and lo-fi as possible to make an .......

I guess I wouldn't pay 500 for any LP for that matter. And btw, we are talking about a jazz album recorded in Jamaica. There's no slighest hint of reggae on it. .......

Especially the 60's small band (trio, quartet) jazz recordings when it comes to choosing between mono or stereo issue I often pick a mono. Usually they sound more natural than their usually (fake) ste .......

It varies from day to day. Basically I love everything I have, because I weeded out all rubbish in the early 90's and since then my taste has been so supreme that I don't purchase mistakes any more :- .......

I have done that since the 70's (cassettes) and nowadays I quite often make a digital copy to hard disc (I have discarded CD-R's to make my own backups though) for casual use, for albums I like to lis .......

Great readings on some Billie Holiday related material by this Swiss songbird. I like this album a lot and can't see it as a rip-off as some contemporary critics saw it. Not much originality I reckon .......

I always pick everything by LHR I see. Don't have this one though. I know it's a bit cheesy stuff for some, but I like Hi-Lo's and Singers Unlimited, too. Some people just can't get it. .......

Yep, Mandrill is a name of an aggregate to remember, too. They mixed quite a bit of salsa & latin grooves into their mix of funk, and some generic psychedelia, even free jazz of the era as well. Just .......

Why would you want to use noise filters for digital transfers? Having several years of experience using this stuff (from both Waves & Sonic Foundry) I can assure you that they ultimately kill the fun .......

CDs are quite obsolete for my use nowadays. If I want to enjoy good sounds then I play some LPs at home. if I want portable music then a pocket size mp3 player serves the purpose better than any CD pl .......

I have bought many with only one side off-center. I can filter out many kind of damages (like severe crackle) in my mind but I have not found a psychological way to deal with this annoying music going .......

95 % of LPs I buy are used. Minor groove wear isn't an issue in my opinion. Excess amounts of it is a nuisance though. I buy soul, jazz, funk, pop, salsa, ethnic. No classical. .......

The best: The current Audio Technica OC-9 ML/II I'm using on my DPS turntable / Wilson Benesch Act 0.5 arm combination. It's the first cartridge that has relaxed my nerves to concentrate in music and .......

Hardly ever use tonearm lift myself either (I use it only for lifting up the tonearm). I have never done any damage to needles/cantilevers (fingers crossed now) - yep over 30 years with no accidents. .......

Ortofon's SPU Royal N is equipped with with ordinary 1/2" mount. I'm not familiar with this design though. Just only found that this kind of product is on Ortofon's web-site. .......

Let me add that those Blood & Fire / Simply Vinyls are good buys. Their earlier catalogue sounded pretty good despite digital handling. It's about the music anyway. I don't think anybody buys reggae r .......

At least Simply Vinyl / Blood & Fire vinyl issues are all digitally transfered and Cedar/No Noise restored from vinyl sources since very few reggae master tapes of lesser known artists exist any more. .......

It mates with Rega arms very well in my experience. The height of the cartridge is also as correct as can be so there's no need to for extra spacers to get the correct VTA with Karat on Rega tables. K .......

It's very good at sailing through even some severely warped albums. It doesn't jump out of the groove, but I'd still avoid playing such items with this delicate piece of gem even though it's capable o .......

I just tried the clamp on-the-fly procedure on my DPS deck. It can be done, even though it's a threaded model. It's actually quite easy. You must be extra careful and have very steady hands to do it t .......

Must be some kind of misunderstanding because it would be nearly impossible to use the clamp while the platter is spinning. The motor used with DPS is very high torque. .......

I have to disagree about tracking warped records with 17D. My Karat/Wilson Benesch Act 0.5 on DPS combination is able to track some very dangerously shaped records that I haven't been able or dared to .......
